Do you guys think Pacquiao is on a par with Duran?

You have some valid points. The difference between Pac and Duran.
Duran is slow, and doesn't use angles the way Pac does. Duran is a beast but his speed is 3rd gear, while Pac's is at 6th gear.
That alone is the Trump card. Pac's speed will be too much for Duran. Pac will spin him like a top and Duran will call Nomas after being frustrated in the ring.
Pac has too much speed for Duran to handle. Only chance Duran beats him is with a solid punch, but that said both men have the hands of stone. Both are heavy handed.
Pac in the light weights are dropping his opponents like flies. Both men are heavy handed, but both men are not the same in terms of speed. Pac is Duran 2.0. Faster, more agile than Duran.
To those who don't get it.
Speed KILLS.
Duran said NOMAS to SRL because he was too slow to catch him. That's Duran achilles he's slow. He's feet is slow. He can't win against fighters with great footwork. Pac has that in spades.
Duran did quit against Leonard from frustration. I never bought his stomach cramp excuse. But Pacquiao's style would have NOT frustrated Duran. Not one bit.
I agree Pacquiao was faster than Duran. Yes, speed can be a killer. But timing borne from ring IQ trumps pure speed. And I just feel Duran has it all over Pacquiao in that department.
As far as mobility, I suspect you equate Pacquiao's athleticism as evidence of better footwork. I argue Duran's effortless footwork placed him in advantageous positions against most opponents (except Hearns and Leonard). I'd speculate that he would have had no problem dealing with Pacquiao's movement.
Finally, Duran's defense was levels beyond what Manny ever had. e.g. I just can't see Pacquiao surviving more than 6 rounds with Iran Barkley at MW. Hagler would have destroyed him. IMO Pacquiao gets KOed cold against Hearns or Leonard.Comment

If you were to look at Pac's evolution as a fighter and how he breezed through his opponents, and won majority of the rounds. That's a man with great skill and timing as well. All starts with Speed. Pac wasn't known for being a counter puncher, but he has become in the later part of his career. What makes Pac a complete fighter. He has it all great footwork, fast hands, heavy hands, knows how to use angles, timing, but what separates Pac among the rest is not his fast hands, experts noticed. It's Pac's feet that has dazzled his way to greatness. You have some valid points.

Here's a highlight of a prime Pac and what he is about. Angles, speed, timing, precision countering.
Pac is Duran 2.0
Here's a known counter-puncher who got countered by a man not known to be a counter puncher.

Most reputable boxing observers rank Duran over Pacquiao. That could change because there is a tendency not to rank current fighters too highly but as if now most P4P lists have Duran higher up.Comment

Duran redeemed himself by capturing titles at 154 and 160, without catchweights, well above his max weight.
And speaking of rivals, Duran beat his in SRL. Was Pacquiao able to beat his rival in Mayweather? No, he lost and even if he had won, Pac still wouldn't be on par with Duran.Comment

You should know once a fighter is retired that's when historians and boxing experts ponder on the work he's done.
But, at this point its a no brainer how much Pac has achieved in his career. Stuff of legends that even the great Duran wish he had.Comment

Yup it isn't. I have much love for Duran. But it's a mountain to climb to reach Pac's accomplishments. 8 division. Fighter of the Decade. 5 lineal titles. Beaten more p4p champs in his career than any fighter who ever laced up.
Did Duran ever reached that heights? Not even close.
