Well if all of your career you only fought mailmen, milkmen and senior citizens I guess wouldn't take much to have a perfect record.

He was a mafia fighter and many of his earlier fights are non credible to say the least. His better wins essentially all came against fighters towards the end of their primes or careers.
Lack of elite wins prevent him from being held in the same esteem as other HW greats.
Was a very good HW, but his career is very much romanticised...BodyBagz likes this.

He was the best of his time. That is about the best anyone can be with any degree of certainty.tonysoprano

Ezzard Charles was still a live dog when they fought. So was Moore. Rocky fought whoever was there, he didn't duck anyone, though his early retirement may have been inspired by fighters who were on the way up at that time such as Patterson, Liston, Cleveland Williams.

He was a hell of a fighter pfp. He could easily fought at 175 or possibly 168 in today's rules of weighing in 32 hours before the fight. I saw a photo of him weighing in for a title fight at 184 pounds in street clothes and shoes. Since heavyweights have no weight limit he was probably full of food and drink. The ex light heavyweight champs Charles and Moore both outweighed him. He beat whoever he had to beat and ducked no fighter to my knowledge. A great undefeated champion. Ali, who sparred with him was amazed at his power and called him a great fighter. People can rate him where ever they want but to me he was amazing for such a tiny heavyweight. He was smaller than today's light heavyweights who enter the ring weighing 186 to 195 pounds.tonysoprano

Marciano was a true 5’10 and 184lb-that’s a small cruiserweight or a big light heavyweight, which is why he fought Walcott and Charles. ‘Men’ were smaller back In the 1940s and far far less refined
‘Everything’ gets better and evolves
Marciano, like Louis who beat a German Boxer when the world war v Germany was on, are both American overhyped hero’s with no realistic chance of beating the modern day heavyweight, Ali onwards

Who else that was active at that time should he have fought?
