He knew he was beaten, was looking for a way out....that's quitting.

You can twist the narrative any way you want he knew the fight was over, you could see it in his eyes.

Its sad that his nuthuggers try and defend him, almost pathetic.

There’s no better way to indicate you want to continue than saying ‘yes’ or ‘yeah’ when the ref asks if you want to continue.

Once again he may not have been completely alert which makes sense as he was dropped multiple times and concussed but either way I don’t see how he quit.

When I think of quitting in recent times I think of Brook against Spence, Walters and Rigo vs Loma.

He wasn't bouncing on his toes or hitting his gloves together assuring the Ref he was good. AJ quit and the fact that he's not honest with himself will lose him the rematch.

Another spin to the narritive. They have blamed everything with every excuse possible.

The ref definitely could have dona a better job.
Joshua got up at the count of 8, but turned his back to the ref and walked to the corner and leaned against the ropes.
The ref asked him if he wanted to continue and he said yes but he looked unsure. The ref asked him again and he said yes but the ref waved it off.
So Joshua did say he wanted to continue but the ref thought his body language was saying "no mas".

Thing is the last knockdown was no different than the first 3, just way he want about last made it look like he didn’t want no more. Saying yes but just bs’ing with arms still over ropes having the ref have to tell you multiple times this not a timeout and not coming forward with hands up to protect yourself so the ref could actually call a timeout to clean off mouthpiece to continue action.. it’s different ways to quit in a match, brooks vs Spence I don’t hold that against brooks his eye socket was broke, rigo and Walters though was blatant quitting, Joshua would of got up 100 times because shots Ruiz was putting him down with wasn’t big shots he was mentally checked out though and showed it by his actions

Ah man, you were out if it Joshua. You had had enough. You looked like a defeated fighter. Also, when coupled how you spit your gum shield out on the canvass and then proceeded to turn your back on the referee as you walked back to your corner; Your body language indicated that your spirit was broken and wanted out.

In the UK, that’s called a miscommunication:

AJ spits out mouthpiece — he’s communicating to the ref that he needs a timeout, to take his time picking it up and stretch it out for about a minute or so before getting it sorted.

Ref didn’t pick up his cue to protect AJ.

                      Hence, miscommunication.
