Comments Thread For: Joshua: Me & Ref Had Miscommunication At End Of Ruiz Fight

NEW YORK Anthony Joshua is certain he could've continued in the seventh round against Andy Ruiz Jr. The former heavyweight champion still doesn't blame referee Michael Griffin for stopping their fight too soon. Joshua gave his assessment Thursday of what happened once he got up from the second knockdown he suffered during the seventh round, the fourth time Ruiz sent him to the canvas overall June 1 at Madison Square Garden.

Why was the mouthpiece out in the first place? Andy didn't knock it out; AJ spit it out. The ref didn't give AJ a self-imposed break, now he has a new excuse

Joshua was done. After being concussed in the 3rd he did well just to make it to 7. But when he was up in the corner with his hands on the ropes it was clear he was done for the night.

The ref was at 8 when Joshua got up and walked to the corner of his own accord, you can hear the ref shouting to him, 'Hey! Turn around!'

LISTEN TO THE REF'S INSTRUCTIONS AT ALL TIMES, it's not rocket science. I don't like these noises I'm hearing from AJ, he's deluding himself. There was no miscommunication. AJ was just doing his own thing, maybe because he was concussed, maybe because he's used to getting away with it, who knows

The man's just explaining himself because people keep saying he quit when he didn't. If he doesn't answer the question, it's a problem and now that he answered the question, it's a problem. The guy who asked him the question is one of these PBC channels on YouTube.

Anyway, I think the referee saved his career. He was done after the 3rd rd. He's going to get it right in Dec.

          2x!

I normally like AJ, but he's taking a turn for the worst since his loss. Now all he seems to do is adopt a Hearn-like persona with constant lying and spewing half-truths to the media. AJ knew exactly what was going on - He was desperate to lean on something because he was unstable - and he ignored the ref thinking he would get a pass. Its on video.

I can't wait to see how he's going to outbox Ruiz for 12-rounds. That's the bottom line, because Ruiz has already demonstrated that he can take a shot. But AJ doesn't seem to be in the same position.

Wilder ducked Joshua among many other fighters. I know that has nothing to do with this but it's just nice to remind all the pbc fangimps.

Joshua excuses are not a good look dude. Everyone was looking for a showdown between you and Wilder and/or Fury. You allowed the "snickers man" to stall your plans. Your only excuse is you lost fair and square. No explanation is needed. You can't not move forward looking backwards. This loss is obviously still in your mind. I hope it's not a continuation of your last fight. Sounds like you may need counseling.

What was the miscommunication? The Ref telling you to turn around to face him? The ref asking if you wanted to continue? The Ref not giving you a 30 count before giving back your gum shield?

That's how I see it too, AJ wanted out. The ref did his job perfectly adequately
