It damn sure is avoiding Tony if those fights cannot happen til May 2007. There's no excuse for letting Floyd slide with easy fights until that long. Surely you see that...
GREAT fighters... gee I don't know Genaro Hernandez (probable HOF); Jose Luis Castillo; and Diego Corrales. The fact that he doesn't have that many should indicate to you that there aren't that many great fighters in any era so you can't beat that many of them. If he beats Hatton and Cotto which he can and will if they ever fight him... that could be two more names. Now back to the point at hand. Margarito has been the welterweight champion for 6 defenses and who has he beaten? I would definitely rate Zab Judah (even with all of his flaws) higher than any of Margarito's "big" wins.
g HERNANDEZ was past his prime and Dela had already given him a beating..Corrales got his arse kicked by Casamayor(is he great?)
Jose Luis Castillo and Diego Corrales are P4P level fighters. Genaro Hernandez was a great champion at 130 and will probably go to the Hall of Fame when he is eligible. Jesus Chavez is a good name on Floyd's resume as well, just below the upper echelon...

After 15 years, how much longer can Margarito get away with easy fights?

Of course I see that. But I don't consider Margarito to be a more difficult fight than Baldomir. He brings some skills like power that Baldomir might lack but he doesn't have Baldomir's chin or his quality wins. Therefore I think that if Floyd wants to become the recognized champion at 147 before fighting next year that will be fine. Margarito has been champion for 6 defenses and has yet to face an opponent better than Zab Judah. Who is really taking a vacaction?
I'm just fine with a Baldomir fight. Ya can never blame a guy for going after the legit champ.
And its amazing that during all that time, he never managed to fight a legit opponent.
The reason for Tony not getting his big fights is well-documented, and anyone who refuses to acknowledge the simple truth that Tony has been avoided by the divison's elite is kidding themselves. The best Tony could get to fight him were Cintron (who most thought would KO Tony), Lewis, Santos at 154 and the undefeated Kyvelos.
There is no use in accusing Tony of going easy when Floyd is doing the exact same thing and yet it is FLOYD (not Tony) who has the most control in all of boxing over who gets to fight him.

Do you know where Marg is from???
Mexico. Do you know how old fighters turn PRO in Mexico?
15!!! he didnt start his career with a bronze medal from the Olympics. fighting hand picked opponents to EASE him in to the pro's like fighters do with good contracts.
Marg as early as the beging of his career has never had an easy opponent

JLC beat Floyd in the first fight.
Good resume, but def not GREAT
If your claim is that G. Hernandez was past his prime because he lost to a surefire HOFer in DLH then you are crazy. After the beating he was able to regain the titles immediately. Casamayor is a really good fighter but not great. Losing to him definitely doesn't take Corrales from the level of great. Maybe I am not understanding your definition of great. Who would you consider a "great fighter" today. And if you say DLH or Shane then you got to give it to Floyd. DLH's best wins were against "over the hill" guys like Whitaker and JCC. He lost to Trinidad and Mosley and beat Vargas. Mosley beat DLH but lost to Winky and Forrest. Bernard Hopkins lost to RJJ and JT but never really fought another dangerous opponent (Trinidad and DLH were blown up welters which made those fights mildly dangerous at best).
