So did Mayweather officially duck Margarito now that it's over?

Boxing is about politics for Tony. Sure he has a belt, but NO one at 147 has ANY obligation to fight him, regardless of mandatory status. Most people do not even respect mandatories because the bodies are so corrupt. Sure, Tony should fight these guys and he does now and then, but these wins historically have NOT gotten Tony much credit with the fans who excuse Floyd.

Margarito was rated ONE at 147 by RING for a period of time, and that's ****in good enough for me, aside from the fact that I've seen him fight and I know he's a threat.
I think he is a threat too. But just because he is a threat and he offered Floyd money does that mean Floyd has to fight him or it is a duck?

tell me please, i wanna know.
You are taking posts out of context again. I was explaining what was meant in the initial post which read Margarito demands to fight either elite opponents or bums and he should fight contenders like him. You replied Floyd is a contender like him. I was explaining that the poster meant Floyd was the elite fighter not the contender.

          • And what makes Floyd elite? His tremendous boxing skills, speed, and defense. Few in the sport can compare. You don't have to like him but you can't really question his status as one of the best in the sport

                  • I'm of the school of thought that Mayweather is a masterful boxer, not a fistic god. So, I think certain styles would be harder for him to deal with than others. I want to see an Antonio Margarito fight because I think Floyd would have to show us something to win. It would be a challange. Margarito is a dangerous fight to take. Why do I have to debate that Margarito is dangerous but that Floyd does not need to fight him right now? Yes, Antonino is dangerous, but overall...someone as flawed as Baldomir, has more credentials to fight Mayweather than Margarito. Who has Margarito beaten? Alright. So why are we so stuck on him, other than because of Mexican fight fans (its fine to support your fighter) and Bob Arum's promotion? Baldomir just fought the last two men Mayweather fought and beat them both in a suprising fashion for someone with no KO power. I'm not saying that Baldomir is better than Margarito...but let's make a real, genuine argument for Margarito over Baldomir....other than that 'he'd pressure, pressure...kill him, kill him.' That's a prediciton, not a justification for the fight.

If someone comes along and says Mayweather is afraid of Williams...does that automatically justify a fight at this early stage of his career? Just because a fighter has some grass roots fans and is perceived to be a good fighter does not promise him a shot against the best- which the sport recognizes Floyd as, whether or not he is. You have to prove yourself.

You have a problem with him fighting Judah after his losses (even though his last one was to the best fighter in sport), but no problem with the Six Heads fight after Mayorga had just got done tearing his ass up?
That's not the issue. We are discussing what calling out Judah would do for Tony. The argument presented to me is that calling him out and beating him somehow gets Tony closer to a fight with Floyd. I never said a Lewis fight would do that...and neither would a Judah fight. Tony is a legitimate threat in the eyes of most boxing media (Dan Rafael, Brian Kenny, Bert Sugar) and many fans. That's all it takes. A few fans who think Floyd would easily tko Tony because he's a 'bum' do not make the world go round.

As for Tony fighting Williams/Quintana...that's fine. But Williams already has a fight and wants Tony after that. Who knows if Paul will even come down from his request of $6 million (an obviously ridiculous demand if it was not in jest)?

I'm not sure what Quintana plans to do next, but sure I would love to see Tony fight him.
