Team Canelo had 30 days to request a voluntary defense. Since they allow it to expire then the IBF had no other recourse than to call in their mandatory defense of which Team Canelo had more than seven weeks to negotiate in good faith with their IBF mandatory challenger Sergei Derevyanchenko but simply refused to do so. Which is why Saul Alvarez has now been stripped of that title.

Thats not true,he couldn't request anything before they suddenly ordered a purse bid. Only if next opponent was Andrade could he have been eligible for an exception because only he had a belt canelo didnt possess.
But Andrade hadn't even fought yet when they ordered it. Ibf is a joke org because despite claims they follow the rules they are as for sale as they come the minute they have deryev fight for a vacant title,lose that fight then the new champ lost to a unified champ,& IBF still makes deryev instantly eligible for another ibf title shot. Thats the epitome of ******ity especially considering Canelo brings far more to the ibf than they bring him.

Canelo was extremely upset that Golden Boy couldn’t close a deal with Sergey Kovalev, per sources. Canelo had made it clear that was who he wanted to fight, going as far as to communicate that to officials working with Kovalev through his inner circle.

He really had no intention of fighting anyone else, if this is indeed true. And we're led to believe he will fight Andrade next? That ain't happening. As I said before, that was them saving face. Golden Boy was blindsided. They were so Hell bent on avoiding all voluntary challengers like Triple G that they failed to inquire about when the sanctioning bodies were going to start calling in their mandatories.
They've known about the IBF's reputation and history of being the most stringent sanctioning body in the sport of boxing for years. Just ask Tyson Fury and as recent as last year, when they stripped Triple G of its IBF title for failing to to do the same thing.
That is to defend his IBF title against the same mandatory challenger as Canelo Alvarez Sergei Derevyanchenko.Comment

What would GBP be without Canelo? I mean it sounds like they f**ked up in regards to managing the sanctioning bodies, applying for extensions etc, which if true is pretty amateur hour stuff.
He has his long term deal with dazn already, makes you wonder what GBP brings to the table for him at this point. Wonder how many fights he has left on his GBP contract.
Would not be surprised if Eddie Hearn is taking spanish lessons as we speak.Comment
