People used to say this exact same stuff when boxing was basically exclusive to HBO and Showtime.
This is the problem with these apps

We used to say the same when boxing started to move to PPV (in the UK).Splitting their programming is ******. If I'm paying for ESPN + i should be able to see whatever is on ESPN live. Which is how Showtime uses their app.
I see no proof OTT is the wave for live sports. The reason you see combat sports on OTT is because combat sports fans have been paying for content since combat moved off of broadcast tv. We're the suckers of sports fans. When the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, College sports take a significant game & make it available only thru streaming is when I'll believe it's the wave for sports.
We said it when the Premier League went to Satellite.
In Australia there was outrage when the Premier League moved off pay TV and exclusively to an app run by a Telco provider. They did the same to the World Cup over here.
It's already happening. I can't speak for the US but I don't see why it would be any different.
Isn't NBA now available via an app? I wonder how popular it has been.Comment

Well saidThis isn't nothing new & idk why so many supposedly smart cats here are acting like it is. EVERYTHING had a transitional period.
Mfers were in horse & buggy's saying cars were dumb. Mfers were listening to their radio thinking their neighbor was a r3tard for buying a big box to watch shows. Mfers thought films with talking in them were a horrible idea. There are a million bigger examples then this change from broadcast TV to the superior concept of streaming TV.
Humans are a creature of habit & most don't accept change easily. This is no different & was entirely expected by DAZN & ESPN+ & they know this is a transitional situation that will take time better than the people bringing up this "problem" that is simply a thing with changing technology.
I was one of the first people to ever try Spotify, back in about 2008 before it launched. I work in the music industry and some people got invited to try the service and give their feedback.
A lot of people felt it was a ****** idea that wouldn’t take off. They felt that nobody would rely on an internet connection to access their music and it wouldn’t replace mp3 downloads or physical copies of music because it had too much reliance on needing a device connected to the internet to function.
Look at it now, music streaming services have basically made every single other way of consuming music obsolete. Apple are even closing iTunes store and just having a streaming service. Netflix has basically taken over the way people watch a lot of things.
People need to realise that among younger generations, sitting in front of a TV is becoming an archaic way of watching something. It’s only a matter of time before sports goes the way of music, movies, tv series etc..
Companies will always move with the times. Younger generations are not brought up with TV. They’re brought up with apps on ipads and phones etcLast edited by deathofaclown; 06-17-2019, 11:06 AM.Comment

You're right. Apps might be the future, but as of right now we're still in that awkward, janky transition phase.
Maybe they have plans to put Fury on the main channel in the future and this was just a teaser. The plan was to boost Fury's name in the USA so the Wilder rematch would sell more. Don't know how fighting on ESPN+ is increasing his name value as of now.Last edited by Biolink; 06-17-2019, 11:15 AM.Comment

Your replies aren't critical. You're whining like a ***** about what I chose to post on my account from my phone which you could easily ignore. But you choose not to. The ***** in you comes out because that's what you are. A *****Comment

No they did not. Stop it. Millions already had HBO & Showtime when boxing moved to premium cable. Cable was on the rise in millions of households and required you to do nothing but call your local cable company and they did the rest.
What people said was putting boxing on premium cable would make it a niche sport. Which it did. But somehow people think putting a niche sport on a niche app or behind more paywalls is going to grow the sport. IdiotsComment

Forget it people you wont get through to MotorCity. It dont matter how good or bad or how its just the direction media is going in. MotorCity is hating on this troll style. He is a PBC shill so will rip on APP's regardless of how many Americans are telling him they already have it and already like it.Comment

I couldn't have agreed with you more. Why would they black out Tyson Fury's ESPN's debut over a national televised audience and put him on an online media streaming service where the audience is very limited, narrowed and marginalized?
How does he expect the mainstream, crossover American fans to notice him, if they only going to broadcast his fights over an online media streaming service? It's going to be very hard for casual fans to find and recognize Tyson Fury over the internet because they don't watch boxing anyway.
The irony is, the very same thing that Bob Arum said about AJ isolating himself from the American crossover fan by fighting on DAZN; He is doing the exact same thing with Tyson Fury. They are taking all of the British fighters off American television and putting them over the internet.
Because their marketing and production team think streaming online is them being current "ooh let'sstream it and have a billion internet people watch it". It's like this ****ty trend nowadays where websites are designed for mobiles first, so you have snazzy responsive websites that look gorgeous on mobiles with half the functionality and absolute dog**** on laptops and desktops.Comment
