the charitably announced crowd of 13,181 to their feet.

which means there is no way hell that many people were actually there. that is how many tickets were sold but that includes to ticket brokers who gobble them up and try to re sell them(sometimes without success)

    huge star doe

When neither the promoter or venue releases it it's because the attendance is inflated but you don't see it as bad as some of the PBC fights. Remember when they first launched they literally paid agency firms to hire crowd fillers, on some talk show shyt where they paid you to show up and clap lol

This venue was configured to only hold 12-13K attendance and when the doors opened and Ticketmaster had to stop selling tickets there were still at minimum 3-5K tickets unsold on the website. They didn't sell 3-5K while the card was going on. lol They clearly just gave away a insane amount of tickets just to fill seats. No big deal it's not like they claiming a sell out Barclays holds almost 20K. But it's just funny that PBC didn't want Wilder embarrassed so they gave that many tickets away for a fight that was verified all week and moments before the doors opened no movement in ticket sales. They probably damn near doubled their attendance from actual ticket sales to seats they gave away for free. lol

If you actually sold 13K seats that's pretty good and Barclays and PBC would release the live gate. When they dont it's because the money they made is low because they didn't sell anywhere near 13K tickets.
I agree. Those were solid live gate numbers. However, I think that ratings are more important than ticket sales to be honest. Let's see will this fight break Nielsen ratings by doing more than 1 million viewers.

Showtime doesn't care about the gate as much as the promoters do anyhow. They are more concerned about television viewership; Which is how they make their money.

Besides this was a sanctioned mandatory bout as opposed to a bout demanded by the public. So when all things are said and done, 13,181 is a very good figure as compared to the 14,069 tickets Wilder sold the last time he fought at the Barclays. Which was a little less than a thousand fewer tickets sold.

they probably did give away a lot but thats just the announced attendance. doesnt mean people were there. they count ticket brokers like stub hub as ticket sales because techincally someone bought the ticket it just wasnt a fan or person that was actually there lol

Time to diagnose what went wrong.

Was that fight never going to do good numbers? Did the promotion stink? Or did the fight actually have hype, and the promoters made a mistake in closing the upper level?
It’s time you’ve given up the % Act and joined up with the guys who want to see AJ Wilder club...!!!

the sooner wilder comes to his senses and realizes hes not a huge star or even close to joshuas level the sooner it will happen. its easy to say make the fight but when one side is crazy its kinda hard. boxing is not a charity. its based on making money and when one side thinks they are worth 50-50 when they clearly aren't there is going to be a problem in making said fight. this is all nonsense anyway as they offered to overpay wilder massively and he still turned it down so what more can be done?

Wilder commands the biggest boxing audience in the world (USA).

Factor in the flood of media attention his fights earn, and his value is significant.

Barclays Center capacity is just under 19,000 so they must have tarped off pretty much the entire upper bowl.
Joshua broke a MSG presage record and will have a full house in June.
That’s why he’s making Canelo money while Wilder’s best payday is a third of what AJ is making for effectively a stay busy fight.

In addition, given that it was not a fight that the public demanded to see and was a mandatory defense by the WBC sanctioning body. I think those numbers were solid.
yeah because ortiz the undercard fighter is a huge star? he should be capitalizing on his huge fight with fury/going viral, etc.. but its just not there. if you are a star the public will want to see you against anyone. you aren't a star if you need other stars to get good numbers.

so he gets a ton of media attention and yet still has trouble selling his fights. you know what that means? people know who he is but they just dont care or want to pay to see him. joshua meanwhile selling far more tickets at far higher prices. guess his value is far superior.
