Would Hearn prefer guys sign to DAZN? Absolutely. Would he allow that to prevent a fight under the present circumstances? Highly doubtful.

Besides, options shouldn't prevent a fighter taking an opportunity of this magnitude. Haymon had options on Joshua after the Martin fight for much less money than what's on offer now. At the end of the day you do what's necessary to become champion.

Dressing up the DAZN offer to Wilder as some kind of multi fight slave contract is a bit disingenuous.
A bumper wage packet for Breazeale plus 2 Joshua fights as requested by Wilder himself is perfectly reasonable.

That's not the deal Miller got though he had to extend his contact for minmum of 3 more fights ( for a very good money )

We know Wilder didn't have to sign for any more fights on DAZN after the 2 with AJ. If Ortiz and Kownacki were told they would have to, I'm sure we will hear all about it soon.

What did I say?Alot of people again drinking that Hearn Kool-Aid with him saying RIGHT AWAY that AJ wanted to fight Ortiz but he said he was not ready.Funny thing was Ortiz and his people were not saying that.Kownacki has now bowed out for some ****** reason he will be lucky not to get upset before he see's half of that money.Im sure it was more like 2.5 or so then 4.75 but still he should have jumped at it.

Ortiz can correct that by simply coming out to the media and saying he wants the fight. He has been very vocal to the media about how easily he beats Joshua so why exactly hasn't he come out now and said he wants the bout? So many others have said they want it already so why is the guy that sees himself destroying Joshua instantly not throwing his hat into the ring?

The fact that there's been nothing from Ortiz himself backs Hearn's 'Kool-Aid' statements. He could indeed be lying but currently the indications are that Hearn is telling the truth.

And btw, in case you didn't know, if either of those 2 guys beat AJ they would be taking 3 world title belts back to PBC and Uncle Al.

That's my point! How is PBC responsible for this mess? Why haven't the guys in MatchRoom been offered the fight? Why hasn't Hunter been offered the fight? It's just a way to say, "Well we went with fighter X, b/c fighters Y and Z wouldn't take the fight!" It's a lame tactic! There's only 5 weeks to train and recover for Joshua! Hunter is in training, Hrgovic has no fight scheduled, neither does Whyte, or Chisora. Fix the problem with your own stable! Don't deflect the blame for this mess to Al Haymon! And in the future, if you need a PBC fighter, it's probably best to talk to Al Haymon!

I have no love for Don King, we all know the horror stories and there are probably more besides.

Acknowledging his ability and willingness to make fights even with his mortal enemies does not equate to support for robbing and exploiting fighters.

Where's the business sense in rejecting $100 million to fight Dominic Breazeale on regular Showtime?

Or having Ortiz reject as good a retirement package as he'll ever see to fight Wilder for not even half as much?

Or denying Kownacki a title shot in his home town so he can toil away on undercards in hopes of landing a Wilder fight which again won't be half as lucrative?

Are we going to pretend that Haymon, who is no stranger to Don King by the way, is acting purely in his fighter's best interests here? That he isn't putting himself and his network commitments first?

A booming, divided boxing business in 2019

Hearn isn't averse to pointing fingers at himself.

"Everyone's trying to keep up; we're overpaying," he said. "ESPN's overpaying fighters, Haymon's overpaying fighters and some of the fighters just aren't worth what the numbers say they are. So it's a war of attrition right now. We saw this a few years ago with the PBC. I remember because I was on the other end of it. We felt the shockwaves in the U.K., with the PBC coming in and offering large amounts of money to fighters, world-class fighters, of which there were many, and we had to step up our game"

That was in 2015. In 2018, explained Hearn, "it's kind of like the reverse now, where DAZN is coming in and spending a lot of money and PBC has had to up their game and go back to paying at the levels [they were at] before..."

"There is more money in the sport than ever, more broadcasters in the sport than ever, more shows than ever, more big shows than ever," Hearn pointed out. He then added, "But I do worry a little bit, particularly with the U.S. side of the sport, because there seems to be a lot of people acting with their balls rather than their brains. Listen, maybe we're one of them..."

"I do like to think that we have a reputation for making more fights with other promoters than anybody else," he continued. "But of course, everybody's strategy is the same: Deliver the biggest names and the biggest fights to your platform, your broadcaster. It's not just that one's nasty or vindictive, that's just the name of the game. If I've got Oleksandr Usyk or Anthony Joshua and I'm putting him on ESPN, well, what's the point in DAZN being with us and giving us a budget if we can't deliver our big names to their platform..."

Ultimately, there is a stark reality to the current marketplace. Promoters aren't just worried about protecting their boxers, but also protecting their broadcast partners.

"This is just the business, it will mean that certain fights are difficult to make," explained Hearn, who is under pressure himself to make a Joshua-Wilder fight sooner rather than later.

"If Golovkin comes to DAZN, I'm sure we'll get Canelo against Golovkin III," Hearn continued. "If he doesn't, then we'll probably never see that fight. So that would be a shame. Will you ever see Lomachenko against Mikey Garcia? I very much doubt it. It's a fight I'd love to see. Will you see Errol Spence against Terence Crawford? I very much doubt it. That's another fight I'd love to see."

That sound you hear? It's the collective groaning of boxing fans across the world.

"It's not that anyone's really trying to scuff up the sport or be difficult, it's just their jobs," Hearn went on to say. "Haymon's got to deliver for Showtime and Fox, I've got to deliver for DAZN, Bob's got to deliver for ESPN.

"So they won't move their talent, nor will we."
