"Too Fast" Fury vs "Sonny" Liston: Who wins?

I’m very familiar with Sonny Liston, thanks. Liston had very long arms, true. Same wingspan as Jennings but shorter in stature. Sonny was also slow footed and had slow hands.
Stand facing the wall, close enough to touch it with your fist, arm straight out. Now without moving forward or stretching out, raise your fist 9 inches. Being relatively short, Liston would have a substantial reach disadvantage.
You can use your position of the body and the legs to increase length and Liston had long powerful legs.
Your really misinformed about how reach translates to an advantage in combat and about Liston... don't take it personally. Heres the general problem you are having and others seem to have: You associate size with weight. So some idiot, I don't know if it was you to be frank lol, compared Eddie Chambers to Liston because of a photo. Liston did not weight a lot compared to today's fighters because he was in shape for going 15 rounds, throwing punches the entire time, the entire round. He was in fact a big man though. He had big hands, big shoulders and neck, large legs. In no way shape or form was he comparable to Eddie Chambers, a man of smaller build and more fat, smaller reach, hands etc.
Weigh is only a component of size. For example, I studied martial arts got an injury and was told after an xray that the xray did not work because my bones were very dense...I weighed 190 pounds or so... What if I am weighed next to a man who weights the same weight and is much bigger? who is larger? What is the relative weight of the bone mass, the fat mass, the muscle mass? If Liston came in with fat he would be a 24-50 pound guy... So what? it does not make him bigger. If he did so with muscle much the same...
Fighters were trained to go 15 rounds, muscle takes more energy to feed than fat does, a fighter would be disadvantaged to simply weight more. Look at Williams who Liston fought, the man had a perfect physique... Nothing extra, hence no extra weight.Last edited by billeau2; 02-09-2019, 07:45 PM.Comment
