I remember reading a article on Grantland years ago Profiling Canelo before the Canelo / Mayweather fight

And the writer brought up the hate that he receives in Mexico mostly because he’s viewed as a fighter that didn’t earn his position but got where he is because of his light skin , good looks and backing by certain media companies to be the heir of Mexican boxing without actually earning it

That’s why he’s not loved the same way Chavez or Marquez is because they earned their position Canelo was handed it and if your already not
A Canelo fan I’m sure him always getting generous scorecards and undeserving wins doesn’t help the cause

Don't try to compare Canelo with JC Superstar (Julio Cesar Chavez).

Canelo has 53 fights. 50 wins, 1 loss (Mayweather) and 2 draws (GGG via Adalaide Byrd card of 118–110-giving just two rounds to GGG and Jorge Juarez). I may be mistaken but Jorge Juarez has been out of boxing for at least 10 years.

      Chavez Senior was great!

      He had a total of 115 fights, 107 wins, 86 KO's, only 6 loses and 2 draws.

Canelo is just a pup compared to "Don Chavez."

He would get more love if he stopped trying to look like a gringo, dyeing his hair red and avoiding the sun...

well he's on Mayweather's ass whooppin resume so that's all that counts. Even a old Mayweather crosses up clenelo' and beats him clearly with no problem🥊

not in Mexico. Those stats come from America. Real Mexicans in Mexico and in the states don't like this guy. I work with a few of them and you won't believe the **** that say.

You should choose your words more carefully, Jacobs backed up ggg in only 1 round while Canelo had ggg on his back foot or his bike for 9 rounds minimum and yet somehow you come to the conclusion that Jacobs did better than Canelo despite getting dropped and tagged up!

Look at ggg face post fight in Jacobs fight where he looks like he could go out on a date nite while look at ggg face post fight in the Canelo fight in the rematch!

Ggg looks like he just got beat up and lunch money taken!
I'm interested to know how you figure ggg was on his bike? His back never touched the ropes, he wasn't using side to side foot movement, he wasn't all over the ring. He merely was circling Canelo and using his jab to control the pace. People are over stating how Canelo fought just because it was drastically different in comparison to him moving all around the ring in the first fight. Canelo was the one who got hurt in the 2nd fight, Canelo was the one who was out worked, and the one who lost the championship rounds, yet you act as if he walked ggg down and had him on the defensive.

The people from Mexico are proud people, and I think most are proud and respectful of Canelo's accomplishments. Some dislike him I'm guessing because of the embarrassment they felt when he got caught taking PEDS. Some felt embarrassment when he lost badly to Floyd. Some felt embarrassment when he dropped his belt to avoid GGG. It's hard to idolize a diva like Canelo, when he is treated with close decisions, when one judge scores crazy in his favor. It happened with Trout, Floyd, Lara, GGG.

A few reasons I dislike Canelo; In the Kirkland and Angulo fights, both had about 2 months to lose 40+ pounds to make the weight. They did but had nothing left. Canelo got full credit despite them being weight drained.

The open scoring was a joke vs Trout, and it changed how Trout fought. He out-landed Canelo, but the scores didn't do the fight justice. Lara out-landed Canelo too, and make him look like a fool many times, but yet again one judge apparently watched with blinders on. The Khan fight was a joke as well. A big win over a welterweight with a glass chin. Canelo shied away from Andrade when he had a belt, but jumped at the chance to fight Smith when he got it after Andrade was stripped.

The Clenbuterol saw the punishment at 6 months, which was a joke since he only fights twice a year anyway. Erik Morales got a 2 year ban for the exact same thing, giving the exact same excuse.

Canelo is a great boxer, but in my eyes has a long way to go to get up there with the former Mexican greats. They had to earn what they got, and many view Canelo like a boxer that has had a silver spoon in his mouth from the getgo.

The ginger needs to make an effort with the language. He seems to understand it but is worried about looking like a fool by trying to speak English.
The ginger needs to ****en start trying to say a few words so we can ****en understand this dude!

Americans haven't embraced him either because he hasn't embraced them. Not one word of English? He wants to be idolized but doesn't care enough to be warm to American fans. GGG and Loma are both talking pretty good English they understand where their $$$ come from. Canelo just don't give a f**k

I don’t think your back has to touch the rope for it to considered backpedaling. Also, canelo was never hurt people that say that were just listening to that fan boy jim lampley since he kept screaming like canelo was going to get knockout when he was clearing slipping punches and never even buckled.

Yes that's an accurate description of the fight. It's hilarious how clueless some of the Golovkin detractors are. When Canelo moved all the way from ring center to the ropes it was boxing at its finest. When Golovkin circled Canelo to open up punching lanes he was backing up.
