Nelo because his as%s lost.

Canelo has a better resume and many more years to improve it. Golovkin doesn't. Golovkin needs it more for legacy and financially.Canelo was handed a draw when everyone who watched the fight knows he lost, then he tested positive for PEDs and got the rematch cancelled.
Golovkin has 4 belts, Canelo just has De La Hoya's meaningless Ring title. Even the IBO means more at this point, and that's sad.
Canelo can make more money than Golovkin can if they go their separate ways, but as far as legacy? No contest.Comment

When you compare the two head to head, the tainted draw and the cancelled rematch will always be the first things people thing about.
Golovkin could go fight Saunders and become undisputed. That's a hell of a cap to a legacy.Comment

This...Financially, I don't think either needs it. IMO Canelo needs it because his two highest profile fights have been weak performances made worse because one judge's scorecard that makes fans think Coka dela Ladle paid off the judge. Canelo also needs the fight to try and move forward from testing positive.
Canelo's biggest win technically is still an Old, much smaller Cotto. He got humiliated by Floyd and got a disputed Draw vs GGG. While Canelo is still the bigger money maker, GGG is still the consensus Middleweight Champion who many believed won the 1st fight and is still must see TV (even by his detractors). If the fight doesn't happen this September I highly doubt the finger will be pointed at GGG considering Canelo's the reason the rematch got cancelled in the 1st place. That seems to be swept under the rug for whatever reason.Comment

You could argue that GGG needs it financially but Canelo needs it if he wants even a little bit of respect going forward. He has tarnished his own reputation. On the other hand, you can also put forth the counterargument that if GGG really needed it financially, he would have already settled with the previous deal. Personally, I hope there is no more Good boy Golovkin and he holds his ground to teach the drug cheat a lesson. American boxing needs better standards.Comment

Of course GGG needs it more. He's a needy money hungry b1tch and needs a pension fund obviously. Canelo could fight a donkey and fill the MSG and can buy any title fight between 147 and 160.
Lol at you G-turds thinking you're moving the needle.Comment

Canelo by far. His boxing image has been taking Ls non stop for past 2 years. From dropped belts, cherrypicking bums, to paid off judges accusations and failed PED tests, Canelo needs a boost to his image badly.
Money wise, Canelo needs Golovkin to sell 1m+ PPVs. He didn't do that against Cotto or Chavez Jr, who were very popular fighters. He certaintly didnt come close fighting Smith or Khan. Nobody from the current crop of SWW/MW/SMW bring anything close to the earnings potential or Golovkin - none will even come close to Cotto.
Sure, Golovkin can use another $20-30m from the Canelo fight. But considering how much venom he spewed at Canelo recently, I don't think he's that concerned about it.Comment

Canelo easily. He lost the first fight in the eyes of most observers, and he came back for the rematch with PEDs to gain an extra advantage (since he did not feel he had enough to beat GGG without them). After being suspended due to failing multiple tests, he will be seen as a joke in boxing if he does not make the immediate rematch, and people will always question whether he could have beaten GGG cleanly after he ducked him and vacated.Comment

Financially you would have to say GGG. But even then, Canelo has shown v the likes of Smith that he needs a real dance parter to do serious PPV numbers.
For reputation, Canelo does. Most thought he got a gift in the first fight, then has since tested dirty, cancelled the rematch etc. etc. - For his public image, i think he needs it more. Then will his poor public image right now spill over into less sales? maybe not, his fanbase seem loyal.
Depends which way you look at it. I'd say they both need each other, for different reasons. Maybe Canelo even needs it more right now, which would've sounded ridiculous not so long ago. Whether you think he's guilty of PED's, won or lost the fight etc.. it doesn't matter. The majority think he lost and read all the headlines that he tested dirty and that's what sticks in the mind.Last edited by TheBigLug; 05-29-2018, 12:57 PM.Comment
