After reading through the thread entirely I think this post makes the most sense.
We are trying to find a common variable so we can measure these two punches. Some of the way people do that is really clueless: Did it ever occur to anyone, given Ali's history, that Wepner tagging him was more a testiment to Wepner than a mark against Ali's chin? Look at what Ali was able to take from opposition over his career that tells you a lot.
As said, Holyfield has a great chin, throw that point of comparison out. We probably would not be having this conversation if Ortiz went the distance because ortiz has a decent chin. Thats a start... Tyson also went up the ladder and KO'ed all his subpar opposition. But when he fought against better opponents his KO percentage went way down. Razor Ruddock is a great example of that process...Tyson was able to knock him down, but not out, Razor was a stronger opponent.
We need to see Wilder against a better class of fighters. David Haye might even punch harder than Wilder at this point, we will not know until we see Wilder fight guys who are a step up...not wilder's fault either, but we have to see if he is an elite puncher that can apply his power against other championship bound fighters....Oh wait he knocked out Charlie Z? never mind!!
