2 fights for him is an entire year and possibly he loses who knows... If you get injured I don't think it gives you the right to fight some no-hoper, absolutely not when you hold a world title in your possession.
The WBC and WBA need to press him.

I'm all fine with a boxer wanting to make money, but you can make that money by also fighting the best, perhaps just don't be as greedy which is 100% a big problem we have with 90% of the top tier guys.

Agree with that in bold, they're pricing themselves out on the big fights that they basically think they might lose, protecting this mythical 0 seems to matter more than giving back to the fans who support them.

im not even a thurman fan and i respectfully disagree with you.. he had surgery on his elbow, i think he definitely has every right to a tune up fight coming off that surgery BUT thats it.. he can have his tuneup fight and then get straight to business. i just hope he doesnt lose so next year when he does face spence, it will be a unification bout

I understand one fight, but not two. Why? Because if Thurman is healthy enough to face Shawn Porter, then he's healthy enough for Errol Spence Jr.! My only concern is whether Thurman would be stripped if he doesn't face Porter or Garcia. If the WBC/WBA will not allow Thurman to face Spence Jr. in a unification, then I'll give Thurman a pass. However, if they don't have a problem with it, then I have a problem with Thurman! That being said, SALUTE to Lamont Peterson, for dropping a belt for a chance to be GREAT!

Exactly all these dudes quick to diss thurman must be cherry garcia fans lol first of all we know spence is good but he only fought algieri and a battleworn peterson who was smaller than him lol he needs to earn his stripes and fight in the trenches with garcia who will hit him, and then porter cause he dont have headbutt scars yet from a fighter like porter, thurman did this spence needs to clown garcia n porter instead and fight them to show he is the elite welterweight, smh cutting shortcuts... foh i like both fighters but whats right is right.

keith thurman is not floyd mayweather! he doesn't make all the rules and he still has a lot to prove.

this isn't an older guy saying, "i was injured, i'd like a tuneup." this is a young guy saying that he is unwilling to make the fight for an entire year and that he wants two paydays on national TV.


i don't have beef with a fighter allowing his management and promotional team guide his career. they should. but to see fighters in their primes becoming more and more comfortable with making excuses that push off big fights is deeply troubling, and goes damages the very fabric of what boxing is. pro boxers at the world championship level have historically had a level of confidence that's hard to understand. you ahve to think you can beat anybody, at any time. f#ck matchmaking! pay me and i'll fight. that's what i want to see in a boxer; confidence.

Yea and i forgot he got his title from kell brook but he just came from being crushed by triple g and already had an orbital bone injury, did well boxin spence till he was broken down later, still spence needs to work his way up like thurman, like mortal kombat tourney ladder. Two solid top healthy non battle worn, welters, ideally porter and maybe garcia if possible. I think he beats thurman but earn it is what im sayin, like thurman had to.

I don't see a problem with this since I want to see Thurman fight Spence with both at 100% it probabaly favours Spence too as his will only gain more experience before they meet in 2019

Exactly right, coming off fights against Porter and Garcia it isn't like he has been ducking the best. Thurman ain't playing I believe him when he says this stuff. 2019 I am happy to wait for that fight so both men are at there best.
