Odds are he gets "injured" again after either fight. This is weak.

    Get-back year indeed.

I have zero issues with this, barring any injuries. Both guys at close to being themselves, having eliminate everyone else. Can build up the fight even better and get it on when they are both fit.

Not exactly. Porter fights dirty, and Thurman really struggled with him. Should they fight again, a bad cut or another serious injury could delay the Spence fight even further.

There's a difference between having to restrain a billy goat and escaping from a knockout.

He is a pussie for that. When it came to fighting Garcia when he moved up to 147 Thurman wanted that fight right away. He was on top of that fight. When it comes to Spence dude keeps pushing the time and date back.

In 15 he was talking about let him get a title and build his name up. Now Spence is known as one of the top WW's in the game and Thurman still doesn't sound confident. I am sure Spence whoops his ass and stops him if Thurman actually mans up and fights him.

I knew Thurman was a buster, telling Paullie "don't duck me son" and all that shyt now he is ducking the shyt out of Spence.

As long as the fight happens Q1 of 2019, Thurman can fight the milkman, for all I care. Be honest about about it, and no more "Spence isn't on my radar," side talk, as if the guy doesn't exist.

That crap works for your fanbase, whom you can tell whatever to, but for boxing fans who want great fights, more is expected of great fighters.

Keith Thurman is not in a position, he hasn't done enough for the sport, where people will just sit idly by and pay to see him pick and choose who he fights. Boxing fans are worn out by that, and they are more vocal about it, than 5 years ago.

2017 was a great year for the sport, I see no reason why fans should expect or accept any less going forward.

It would be crazy if he lost one of his tuneup fights. It's not like he beat Garcia or Porter by a lot. I guess he's willing to take the chance but it doesn't make much sense.

So if he fights Porter, would he be stripped by the WBA? And if he fights Garcia, will he be stripped by the WBC? If he has to lose a belt, why not fight Spence Jr.? I'm sure one of the two, WBC or WBA, would grant him the right to fight Spence Jr. for an unification bout. One fight, and then Spence Jr. is probably the best financially! One fight, then rematch Garcia is probably the safest route! One fight, and then Porter, is probably the dumbest route! Porter is still a 50/50 fight, and no one wants to see it!

The root problem is that the sport lacks a universal, transparent structure that forces top boxers to fight the best in their division. Instead, we have multiple sanctioning bodies who ultimately create artificial silos that isolate/protect business interests, and these in turn, are leveraged by fighters to avoid tough fights desired by fans. Super frustrating.

As far as Thurman, I feel if he can't fight a top echelon challenger within six months from his last fight, he should be stripped of his belt(s), and the #2 and #3 should be given the chance to fight for #1 spot. Then, after recovering, Thurman can take the option of regaining a belt against the new #1. Injuries and life events happen, but they shouldn't cause the sport to stagnate with the best fights being left to "marinate."
