If you're a draw you don't go overseas to fight the challenger. Easter has some of the best numbers on bounce TV. More than Linares got on Showtime & HBO. If he'd gotten those same numbers on ESPN, FS1, or Spike TV he'd be praised. But since it was on a black platform people try to downplay the numbers as if those ratings don't count.

What other fighters are consistently drawing 10k in their hometown or anywhere for that matter? The first time Linares ever headlined a fight on US tv was because Showtime was showing his fight on order to set up the Garcia fight. He's signed with Golden Boy & HBO passed on his fights. The first time HBO showed his fight was when Top Rank left and they needed content. His ratings & attendance were lower than Easter Jr. Those are facts! Your opinion means **** when the facts say different.

What fighters are drawing 10k hometown or not? How many cards has Linares headlined in America? How many did he draw and what were his ratings?

Answer: Neither was better than Easter Jr.

I don't really care enough to do the research...but a fighter drawing fans in his home town is not a definitive indication of their ratings. unless Garcia fights him in his home town, it's kind of irrelevant. either fight is fine by me, so I dgaf.

Because Mikey Garcia said he had an offer on the table for significantly more money, and the only fight that's been talked about for him is for Easter Jr next. Not that hard to figure out.

Golden Boy made their offer, Mikey Garcia acknowledged that the second offer was one made in good faith, but there was another fight that was a better deal.

Garcia fights in January (Could easily see a Mikey Garcia/Chavez Jr doubleheader from Staples Center/The Forum or something), wins the fight in good form, and then makes a good faith offer to have Linares come over to Showtime for a fight May/June.

If Mikey was sitting on a better deal than Golden Boy felt they could offer, Showtime should be more than well positioned to back Mikey to make the Linares fight.

Ringstar Sports/TGB Promotions handles the logistics for Mikey, Showtime handles the TV, and the fight gets shopped along the West Coast for the best venue (basically kept to SoCal or Las Vegas).

Showtime may not have interest in Linares, but they do have heavy interest in Mikey Garcia.

If Mikey was set on that fight, Showtime would find the money.

Linares' issue now is that Mikey-Easter is still a good fight, and is a fight that gets made without any real issue.

Which is why it would be a horrible decision to facilitate Mikey vs Linares without a rematch clause. Showtime would risk losing all control of the division if there was an upset. Why would they want to do that?

All Mikey cares about is which fight pays the most. Since Linares demanded 50/50, that meant that fight wouldn't pay the most. Plain and simple.

And more importantly, the rematch gets made without any real issue in the event of an upset. And the winner is guaranteed to stay within the PBC universe, so the fight is of no risk to Showtime. They win no matter what.

Boxing fans are the worst in general. In no other sport have I seen such disrespect to the athletes. Everyone ****s on fighters here, even though they risk their health and well being for our entertainment. People talk mad **** about fighters, especially if they catch a loss or two and suddenly all their other achievements are worth nothing because of those losses

Controlling the lightweight division doesn't really matter if Showtime still has Mikey Garcia (unifying the belts would be cool and all, but who is there really for Mikey to fight and make big events with after knocking off the champs?). Showtime clearly sees Mikey Garcia as one of the stars to build their boxing franchise around, so they're gonna take the bet against Linares (no rematch anyway, as it's a mandatory defense, but Showtime would be walking into that fight backing the better talent).

50/50 doesn't mean **** when you're not talking about PPV fights; Garcia is likely sitting on at least $1m for the January fight. 50/50 on what Oscar is willing to put up for the fight doesn't seem to include upside anywhere.

Showtime is in the business of airing great fights, so a good fight between Garcia and Easter Jr would definitely draw interest in a rematch. Thing is, the same can be said for Garcia-Linares too.

Espinoza's not going to like spending a wooden nickel with Oscar De La Hoya, but if Oscar steps aside, it's not like Showtime would turn their backs on the fight

right, but they can deliver a garcia easter rematch, they cant deliver a garcia linares rematch.

if linares wins, he signs an exclusive deal with hbo and mikey can only get a rematch signing a long term deal with gbp.

if easter wins, mikey can get a rematch no problem.

so why would you take a fight that pays LESS and does more damage to your career if you lose?
