with english being his 2nd language, some of the things he tries to convey sometimes get misconstrued. I think what he was trying to say that Ward retiring is good for boxing because the titles are now vacant, so you could now have meaningful fights between Barrera, Kovalev, Bivol, Jack, Sullivan, etc. Yes, these fights could've happened without the titles on the line, but are more likely to happen if the titles are on the line.

I like how after the 2nd fight, right after he was thoroughly beaten and quit, Kovalev was like, "I want rematch so I can kick his ass." It's like dude, you just had two chances, 24 rounds to 'kick his ass' and didn't.
