Simple answer he kept winning, that's all you got to do, keep winning and brag how good you are, you can be the greatest fight ever and be a wall flower and you will lament in the crowd, you gotta be real good and be loud, winning against all comers is key, the moment you lose one the ride to immortality stops.
Why was Mayweather able to be so successful after he left Arum?

Arum is out of touch with what fans want. But he owns the boxing media so they will never call him out.
He didn't see money in a Floyd/De La Hoya fight? This guy is ****ing delusional. He's clueless.Comment

Mayweather knew how to market & promote himself better than his promoter did. Mainly that was done doing the opposite of what everyone else with his boxing persona does, make himself the villain instead of trying to act like he's some fake cardboard cutout type cat like SRL & ODLH. Since boxing lacks villains & most cats would rather be loved than hated it was a open market that the boxing world thirsted for (& does once again now with Floyd gone & Broner being a poormans version of Floyd at the tip top level).Comment

Yea Arum's media voodoo is impressive as f#ck you gotta admit love or hate the guy. He can "these aren't the droids you are looking for" jedi mindtrick the f#ck outta the media. Its honestly fascinating to watch.
I think most fans thought this at the time doe so its not like Arum was the only guy believing Floyd vs ODLH wasn't THAT interesting. And I'm not sure anyone expected it to be the biggest PPV of all time.He didn't see money in a Floyd/De La Hoya fight? This guy is ****ing delusional. He's clueless.
I'm a long time Floyd fan & hell I even thought he was nuts when he was calling out ODLH & SSM when he was at 135 & they were tip top 147lbers & they rightfully paid no attention to him.Comment

While it is valid what you say about it taking time..you really think thats a fair comparison? it takes time and money to build up a fighter. floyd didnt reach ppv level until a year before he left arum. its easy to poach someone who is already super popular and go from there. haymon hasnt made any of his fighters a ppv star that he has built up. floyd would have had big fights no matter who he signed with at that point in his career.
But you can't tell me arum didn't hold him back and wouldn't let him tangle with Shane, Oscar, cotto etc when Floyd was still with arum..
It's not like Floyd wasn't a champ and p4p by 1998.. arum was marinating him i guessComment

Ah, OK, thanks for the clarification. By any chance do you work in the industry?I sure it matters how much he really co promoted the fight. There's putting your name on the apron and then there's having your staff involved Day to day.
also, as a promoter he has to pay for the undercards fighter
But you raised a good point. As a copromoter/promoter theoretically his share would go to his company. Not himself directly. SeeComment

Talking about Floyd, and all those listed payouts the other poster put up.
Yep, it's a crime. And the sad part is, that's not even as bad as the UFC.Comment

Floyd isn't one of my favorite fighters. I don't like his style and personality, but I give him credit where it's due. Trump inherited his fortune, but Floyd started from the bottom and worked his way up.Comment
