Interesting rule change, but it really doesn't apply to the Alvarez - Golovkin fight as there is no unification happening. Therefore, as I understand it, same rules apply and both fighters must adhere to the same day weigh in.
If anything, the IBF should have something in place where the challenger must agree the day before if he will be weighing in.
Failure to agree makes the IBF belt ineligible to the challenger, and remains with the champion.
In addition, if the challenger refuses the day before to adhere to the same day weigh-in, the champion is able to then forego that weigh-in by default. Otherwise, both must adhere. This way, the champ isn't cheated out of hydration at the very last minute.
Then again, all bets are off if the Ring Belt is considered for the unification, which it may very well be in this case.Last edited by 1nonlymre; 08-21-2017, 05:56 PM.Comment

I would be pissed if I spent all day trying make same day weight and the other guy wasn't. Say like right after the day before weigh in have both agree in writing to do same day weight. If one says no at least they both have equal time to hydrate...Last edited by Shadoww702; 08-21-2017, 06:04 PM.Comment
