The point I made about Hopkins not being in his prime when he beat him says just that. If he had beat prime Hopkins a good 10 years later, you could say that yes he did indeed beat someone on the level of Canelo or GGG.

We'll never know. They fought nearly 20 years apart. If they would have met in the middle we'd have a real answer. Roy beat him in '93 and then Hopkins beat him in 2010. The real fight would have been right in the middle around 2001-2002.
Silly post but I will say this much, Hopkins was older with more fights as a pro than Jones and didn't lose again until he lost to Jermaine Taylor 12 years later.

Next, I will say that Hopkins avoided a rematch with Jones at all cost. He absolutely would not face him before he started taking losses and looked shot. Jones was offering him 40% of the purse on PPV when he was p4p no.1 and had already easily beaten him with with one arm not at 100%. If you say no to that, you want no part of the man. Nobody wanted to mess with him then. Jones wasn't ducking anyone but why should he have traveled to another country while being the A side and p4p in the he sport? It just didn't make sense.

Holy **** man. Are you actually for real?

Ezzard Charles is universally considered the GOAT at LHW. Look it up man!! Just type it in google "Who is the GOAT at LHW" and I bet you anything you like that Charles is LOWEST #3 on any list and #1 on most.

Are you seriously trying to claim that his resume at HW is better than his resume at LHW? Is this the twighlight zone?!?!?

He wasn't the champion because of politics. You are aware he went 3-0 with a prime Archie Moore at LHW right? Beat a long list of HOF'ers there.

You seriously need to do some research.

Lol prime Jones would have smashed Calzaghe. I've got a lot of respect for Joe and think he is great but he got dropped by a shot Jones. What do you think and absolute prime Rjjr would have done to him?

Jones would have made easy money.

Read my last sentence to you and move on.

Jones 》Charles at lhw and you haven't changed my mind.

This is an interesting read for anyone who wants to debate the subject.

                  http://www.boxingnewsonline.net/the-10-greatest-light-heavyweights-of-all-time/11/

Charles is no.1 but Jones is no.2

If you look closely at the competitors that they faced at lhw, to me at least, Jones faced the vastly better competition.

Again, that may have been all on offer at the time but sometimes you have to look at fighters a guy beats in his prime to really rank him properly and Charles' opponents at lhw had an average of ten losses. All that really tells me is that he was a shark in a pool full of guppies. It doesn't tell me that he could have beaten prime Roy Jones. But I can safely say that Jones should have been able to beat a guy who lost to a guy with 22 losses while in his prime.
