Let me give you an idea on how great Roy Jones Jr really was

Imagine if Jermall Charlo did the following:

Beat GGG, Lemieux and Canelo at 160

Beat Ramirez, DeGale, Smith, Groves and all other major players at 168

Beat Kovalev, Ward, Beterbiev, Gvod, Stevenson and whomever else it takes to unify 175.

Goes to HW and beats someone like Joseph Parker or Stiverne for the title

Goes back to 175 and beats Edwin Rodriguez...

Oh yeah and somewhere amongst doing the above accomplishments, he plays a full professional basketball game the day of kicking someone's ass on fight night... Did I mention he must never come close to losing either?

People really don't realize why and how RJJ is the GOAT

Roy jones is tye type of fighter the term atg should be reserved for. People throw it around a bit too easy these days.

Yeah Roy's resume is so underrated it's ridiculous especially considering how dominant he was.

jones was great, but i dunno about comparing ruiz to parker/stiverne or tarver to rodriguez. tarver was the man to beat at 175 when jones fought him. rodriguez was never that guy.

ruiz isn't no ATG or anything, but he had some solid wins and outside of tua and haye, he usually held his own.

i don't think you're showing roy jones jr enough respect with those comparisons.

That's why the Tarver KO was so shocking.

It was like seeing Superman get shot down.

People just weren't ready to see that happen.

No disrespect to Roy Jones Jr. but he didn't face any fighter as good as Canelo or GGG at 160. He beat Hopkins a good 10 years before his prime. So in reality it'd be more like someone who's beat just Lemieux.

He did beat James Toney at 168 and he's better than DeGale, Smith and Groves all put together, so I'll give you that.

Anything beyond that is ridiculous though, he didn't beat anyone at 175 on the level of Ward or Kovalev.

If you want to give credit to Roy Jones Jr. give him credit for what he did in the ring and his actual resume, not comparing him hypothetically like this. If you'd like a more accurate interpretation it'd be more like if Charlo beat Lemieux at 160, beat DeGale, Smith, Ramirez, Groves and Dirrell at 168, Bivol, Stevenson, Smith Jr., Alvarez and Gvozdyk at 175, then Parker at heavyweight. Not that impressive when it's a realistic comparison, especially when trying to make a point of him being an all-time great. If you want proof of Roy being an all-time great, watch his fights and look no further.

I totally agree. Jones in his prime was the GOAT. I really can't find another fighter between 160-175 that I favor over him all time while he was at his peak.

Those are also good points. Ruiz is very underrated in retrospect. In other words, people crap on him now based on what he did later in his career ignoring him in his prime and the fact that he has some very good wins.

Prime Hopkins or middleweight Sugar Ray Robinson or Archie Moore at light heavyweight? Can you truly say he was the GOAT?
