You could tell that Kovalev had the fight beaten out of him. His response was to look to the ref for help rather than retaliate. Whe Weeks called the fight off, he didn't bother to protest.

He was physically spent by round 6 and Ward had cracked his defence which is why he got cracked in the 8th.

Is everyone forgetting the sizzling right that buckled Kovalev before any borderline blows Kovalev was out then stumbling around no responses to wards punches fight stopped early but inevitable to any common sense

The right hand hurt him for sure but that doesn't excuse Ward for landing those low blows. I've seen plenty of fighters hurt and staggered that have come back and win the fight.

Wow, that says it all. Kovalev quit and the ref could have given him a standing 8 count right there. He wasn't defending himself, those were totally clean shots.

Kovalev's behavior there is indefensible, those weren't even very hard shots, he was faking low blows, but the ref wasn't buying it. Ward shouldn't have stopped, he should have kept punching the turtle.

I stopped the fight due to Kovalev not protecting himself had I saw the shots were low I would not have stopped the fight. My mistake

I agree with Duva, but nothing will come of it. I salute Ward for the win, but it's always something with him, and he always gets by with it. Either headbutts, low blows, grabbing, you name it. He definitely has some serious talent, but throwing the fouls in there takes away from it. He really doesn't need to do it IOW. It will be interesting to see how much of that riff raff Stevenson puts up with if they fight. My guess is ZERO.

I was disappointed, but not surprised, that Ward didn't even entertain the thought of facing Stevenson next. I also agree with your point about "putting up" with fouls. Kov should've returned the favor! He seemed frustrated because he couldn't land the straight right hand. Kov needs more tools!

Though I do believe Weeks did not see that the shots were low and stopped the fight because Kovalev was not defending himself. If he had seen that, things may have gone differently.
