He definitely has some serious talent, but throwing the fouls in there takes away from it. He really doesn't need to do it IOW. It will be interesting to see how much of that riff raff Stevenson puts up with if they fight. My guess is ZERO.

Agreed. Kovalev definitely needs to insert some more boxing skills. The usual thing where the power punchers rely on their power too much and don't do the needed work on boxing. We've seen that more than a few times thru the years. And yes, disappointing Kovalev didn't complain OR retaliate. I know I'd have smacked Ward's tiny stones bullseye dead on, full blast. See how he'd like that. Teach him a lesson.
He did complain, but he definitely didn't retaliate! After the second time, I would've retaliated! What Ward was doing was throwing two punches to the gut, one legal, and one low. The belt line legal punch would hurt Kov, but the following low one, did even more damage, and the ref didn't help Kov. He should've took a knee, got the eight count and complained to the ref! I still don't think he was going to win the fight, because he was tired, and getting hit upstairs too!

Anyway we will never know what would have happened, so just because you're happy with the overall outcome, please don't excuse the fouls. Kovalev was still in the fight when they happened, and they completely turned the tide. Before the fouls in the 8th round: even fight. After those fouls: Ward win on bogus stoppage. So you can speculate about who was more tired (Ward was tired too), but we will never know. Kovalev is also very good at hanging in when he's tired, as we saw in the first fight. And I think Ward struggled more to make weight this time, and with his extra bulk, he was tiring more than last fight. You could see heavier breathing in the corner.
Bro, I think you've got your wires crossed. I'm not excusing anything. I just dont want to get dragged into either sides emotional fight. Should Kovalev come back and done something dirty? ABSOLUTELY! If you check my post history I called that this fight would end in controversy and even publicly stated it could very well land in a DQ which it almost did.

      • so.....

        first, it was the judges.....

        now, it is the referee.....

        hmmmmm..... ?

tell you what, I have an idea.....

        let's order a rematch

this time, we will use the referee from the first fight, and the judges from the second fight

does everyone think that is fair..... ?

and is there anything else that Ward can possibly do to help Kovalev feel more at home and comfortable?

should Ward sing to Kovalev between rounds, and hum loudly whenever he intends to punch him on the beltline ?

there is a whole lotta crying in this thread

        just saying LMAO

And I did not watch the fight, but I saw the punches that Son of Golota threw. It is a constant that he is a dirty fighter.

did not invest time to watch the fight

but happily invested time to cry about it

Yep, definitely Ward was asking for a swift punch in the ***els. But, hey, maybe this will be a wakeup call to Kov to move up to CW. Might be the best decision he ever makes.
