Comments Thread For: Duva: Ward's Team 'Should Be Embarrassed' by Offer to Jackson

Sergey Kovalev was as surprised as Kathy Duva when she first found out. That's Duva's recollection of how Kovalev reacted when his promoter informed him that Andre Ward's handlers made an offer to his head trainer, John David Jackson, to join Ward's team before a deal was finalized for their June 17 rematch. Jackson told Duva and Egis Klimas, Kovalev's manager, about the discussions he had with Ward's attorney and adviser, Josh Dubin, about teaming up with Ward and his head trainer, Virgil Hunter.

I have to believe Kovalevs people, the reason Wards team came out with it was so now everyone will think Jackson is the liar but I bet Wards team really was worried something would be said by Jackson or Duva... Just goes to show that Ward really is a dirty little b1tch!!! Hahaha, he tries to say he is godly too, there is nothing godly about that man...

well I guess that answers the question as to whether or not JDJ told anyone back then.

Although I'm sure the usual race trolls will just say Duva is lying to protect JDJ.

Seriously this whole story is one of the more bizarre things I've seen or heard of during my time following the sport

        And that's saying something

The art of war by Roc Nation and team Ward. Find a disgruntled employee and make him an offer to join your team. If he does, you get information to help you. If not, you are right where you were before.

Then be the first to the media so your version of the story is whats out there and it makes JDJ and Team Kov play defense in the media.

JDJ has a deep voice. Jay-Z should offered him a guest spot on the next Beyonce album. that would've sealed the deal and JDJ would be in Ward's camp now.

This comes across as near desperation on the part of Team Ward.

They know they got lucky last time and it's hardly likely to happen again.

I dont know, I dont read that much into it. Just seems like a weak attempt at gamesmanship, and trying to get inside Kovalevs head as the fight gets closer.

Not much different than the "oh I might retire" or other nonsense that has come from that camp in the past........

Much ado about nothing. What should Roc Nation or Wards tram be embarrassed about. The objective is to win. You do whatever you have to to neutralize your opponent. With this move at best they would have inside information on Kovalev, at worst they have planted a seed of doubt in Kovalevs head regarding JDJ as a coach. Embarrassing is having your fighter tell you to shut up during a fight.

Yeah I don't think it's desperation...I think Team Ward is just trying to mind f**k Kovalev. I think the plan (or the hope) is to use his emotion against him.
