I think he took a dive. The whole round just seemed so shady. The fact that Bernard says in his corner before the round "this is my round" the fact that the punch didnt look like it landed "clean," the fact that Oscar was pounding on the ground when he was supposably in too much pain to fight on, and lastly the fact that he now promotes Bernard and makes money off of him. I dont know its always seemed shady to me.

I'll always believe he took a dive once he saw he couldn't win.

not to mention roll around the canvas and cry, then POUND THE CANVAS WITH HIS GLOVE. Didn't Bert Sugar accuse him of faking for that same reason?

No wonder he wants everyone to forget about that fight. He wasnt even getting beat that bad. Maybe by a round at the time.

Even Manny (trainer, commentator) in the last fight when the guy was taken down in 40 seconds by a body shot said something along the lines of yeah that was definetly a perfect body shot, no question about it that the fighter was hurt, unlike the questionable body shot that Oscar received. Fight was fixed, because Hopkins didn't have a big fan base, and HBO wanted to do the whole Taylor/Hopkins thing. Hopkins said himself he made $15mil from those two fights. So imagine how much De la Hoya made, a ton as well. Therefore, if De la Hoya beat Hopkins that night, which he most likely would have, or it would have been close loss, Hopkins would have been discredited for losing to a fighter who moved up four weight classes, and probably forced to retire.

            What do you think?

ever been punched really hard, or run into a pole or something? it kills right off the bat, and what a lot of people do, is they punch something or they squeeze something.

It does the same thing. For this same reason, they gave people who needed surgery in the 1800's a piece of wood to bite on. To help ignore the pain. Take ur mind off it. Its a very natural reflex for a lot of people to punch or kink to nearest object after they are struck by an object. I do it a lot to.

During this fight, I had one of the few moments in which I frowned on Emanuel Steward. Steward said that he didn't believe it was a devastating punch because it didn't land on a vulnerable spot. Then the next week, during the delayed broadcast, he recanted his statement and changed his story saying it was a devastating punch. I think that had something to do with internal politics in the HBO company, I have my doubts about what was going on there.
