I think he was reacting on his boxing instinct during the live broadcast of the bout. But then after he got a call from the higher ups and matchmakers, he was told to recant his statement that questioned the integrity of the bout. It wouldve hurt the PPV sales in the future if they promoted the idea that Oscar had stayed down on his own accord.

I love watching De La Hoya fight, but this fight is one of the shadiest things I've seen in boxing. Overall, Oscar is a great thing for the sport, but him taking a dive and signing with Hopkins within the week is just pure bull****.

Answer one question, why would DLH take a dive? Dont say cause he knew he was gonna lose and didnt wanna take a beating. That's bull****! DLH is a warrior and the most important thing to him is his legacy. Taking a dive is not in DLH.

To some people, money means more than legacy. To both Mayweather and De La Hoya, I do believe.

Thats the thing, the thought before the fight was that it was going to be a total mismatch. No one really expected De La Hoya to win. It was suggested in public opinion that if De La Hoya lost, it wouldnt detract from his legacy because no one was really picking him and he was going up against a respected champion who was much larger than himself. But the way he did it, the anti-climax of the conclusion was detrimental to his legacy.

That's crazy. DLH has all the money that he needs , he wouldnt take a dive. HE wasnt taking as much punishment in the Hopkins fight as he took in the Sturm fight.

How is it detrimental to his legacy? Getting caught with a perfect punch to the jaw and knocking you out, you believe? Getting caught with a perfect punch to the liver , you dont believe? DLH was holding his own till Hopkins stepped it up but I just find it hard to believe DLH took a dive. The only one who really knows is DLH and if he did , he has to live with that. If it was me , I wouldnt be able to look myself in the mirror.

Its detrimental to his legacy that we're even talking about the possibility that he threw the fight. Its never a good thing when we have to talk about the possibility he stayed down voluntarily.

From what I viewed the punch wasn't a perfectly placed liver punch to begin with. It looked like it landed more on his side and back area. I also think that the reason why we as viewers watching the fight were lead to believe that DLH was holding his own was because Hopkins was carrying him up until that fateful round. I cant remember the round but I think it was the 8th or 9th. Just my opinion though.
