The three people who discussed the topic whose opinions matter most all said they believed Oscar took a dive initially, regardless of what they said later on.

    1. Emanuel Steward
    2. Teddy Atlas
    3. Bert Sugar

2 of these guys are huge Oscar fans and thought he refused to get up. Explain taht one, please.

He refused to get up because he was hurt badly........Reason enough for you?

What you just said implied quitting.

I guess we're discussing a little of both. I'm accusing him of either realizing he couldn't win and giving up at the first opportunity to make it look like he fought valiantly OR planning the whole fight ahead of time. I'm starting to believe the latter because Hopkins clearly carried De La Hoya through the first 4-5 rounds before taking Oscar out with an arm punch that was supposed to be called a liver punch, but DLH reacted to it incorrectly. Basically, they did poor research. But then again, if some idiots are buying the fight, thinking everything that took place in that ring was for real, then maybe they did pull it off.

All I'm saying is three men that most people consider experts (I don't necessarily) say you don't react to liver shots like that.

I believe after the first 5 or so rounds he may begun to think man there is no way I can beat this guy.......But I don't think he was looking for an out or took a dive.

                  SOLID LEFT HOOK ???

The punch glanced off his arm, landed no where near the liver.

Oscar stayed down and he knows it.

You dont react the way Oscar did when you get hit there.

I have been hit in the liver and you freeze, cant move.

                  That wasn't Oscars reaction.

All I know is judging by Oscar's temperment in other fights, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

This was a fight though he knew he could never win.

It only lasted that long becasue Bernard carried him and decided when to bring the heat on.

                      Just my take on it...
