Canelo's team want GGG to have as long a layoff as possible.

Even before the Jacobs fight, Sanchez said it's not ideal for Golovkin to have 6 months between fights at his age, he needs to be active. That's not to say it's the reason the fight was close, Jacobs did well and it probably had no bearing on the way the fight played out but Canelo's team will be trying to get as many advantages as possible so they will look at that layoff and then the performance and try to get that into play.

Also, GGG should still fight in June because if he cancels those plans, De La Hoya and co. will only move the goalposts again to avoid the fight in September.

If Manny and Floyd can announce a fight late february and fight early May, then there's no excuse why they can't promote GGG v Canelo from June to September. These fights promote themselves once they're announced.

Canelo has had the world handed to him, simply because he was a talented young Mexican fighter with red hair.

-After many subpar opponents, he gets his first title fight at 154, against the great Matthew Hatton. Who never once fought in the division. And they agreed to a 150 pound catch weight. That Canelo failed to make. No matter, Canelo wins decision, champion!

-After some soft title defenses, Canelo has his first real test as a pro - Austin Trout. Coming out of nowhere like an RKO off the turnbuckle, the WBC slides in and makes this fight open scoring. Hey, we wouldn't want any funny business in this massive worldwide event, right? Of course not. No matter, all three judges have Canelo well ahead on points, even though it was a close fight and Canelo had the luxury of knowing he was well ahead.

-That one fight beating Austin Trout was enough to get him Money Mayweather, a fight that would sell 2.2 million PPV buys and earn Canelo a massive payday. But wait, what did Canelo do to deserve this fight? Mayweather, a champ in multiple weight classes, sold massive PPVs, an absolute legend. Under your own damn logic that you just used against Golovkin should apply here right? Uh oh, busted! Let's see how you backtrack out of this one!

From there, Canelo can fight ANYONE HE WANTS. He has that luxury. Angulo? Done. Lara? Done. Cotto? Done. Kirkland? Done. Khan? Done. Liam Smith? Done. Never has an opponent said, "you know what? I'm good. I'll pass on Canelo". Why? Because he's the Golden child. He's beatable and earns a lot of money. Golovkin, a man from kazakhstan, never had that luxury. He spent years in Germany trying to get the big names over there, guys like Felix Sturm, Geale, Murray, hell even Mundine. And he struggled getting those guys. Not because he wasn't good or that he didn't earn it, no because the undefeated Olympic medalist was viewed as high risk low reward. Even for the likes of Mundine.

Golovkin didn't have a built in Mexican fanbase, he had no fanbase whatsoever and what fans he has today he built from scratch, as they would say, he started from the bottom. I would argue what Golovkin has done, from kazakhstan to the Olympics to Germany to HBO headliner to American PPV is far more difficult than what Canelo had to do. If you're a good Mexican fighter, you have a fanbase. If you're a unique and charismatic Mexican fighter? Well that has all the ingredients to becoming a star. Look at Oscar before him. Canelo was a star the moment he started fighting. Thousands of people were watching him fight at 15 years of age and millions just shortly after that. By the time he fought someone with a pulse, he was already a legit star.

So please, spare us the bullshit about what Canelo has accomplished and what Golovkin hasn't for all of us know they've had drastically different paths to get here. As fight fans, the ONLY thing that should matter is that those two entirely different paths cross with each other very soon before it's too late. As if we need another great fight that is either made too late or not at all.
First and foremost it is not canelos fault that he is Mexican and ggg is khazak, it isn't his fault that Mexicans invest more money in this sport then ggg's country does. Also, the Mexican fan base wouldn't follow a 15 yr old kid if such kid did not have potential. Last and I absolutely 100 percent agree with you, the only thing that matters is that canelo and ggg fight! There is a verbal agreement that canelo and golden boy have stood behind this whole time since ggg never intended to move an ounce away from 160, and that is to fight in September of 2017. Ball is in ggg court, what's his move?

I'm not kid sir, and you can't speak to me not for that reason but because you know I'm right. Classic ggg nuthugger move, when points get made and facts get made, y'all run like lil bishes

Tom Loeffler recently mentioned they have countered that offer. There could well be a lot of reasons why K2 has not accepted the current offer, but the only mentioned by 3G's camp has been the money. Be that as it may, whatever the specific sum and particular conditions, the premise remains the same: If an offer is on the table and you believe Canelo is looking for an excuse to avoid the fight it makes sense to either accept the offer or accept the fact that the other side will bail out. The other possibility, which many posters will find distasteful, is that Canelo's team is not trying to avoid the fight but are simply playing hardball in negotiations. If that is what K2 believes, then is makes sense to continue holding out for more money.

To be fair this is absolute nonsense from De La Hoya. Creating excuses to duck the fight.

For all the **** Sanchez talks he's spot on with the following:

"I think we spoke when Eubank did his shenanigans. There are a lot of different ways to turn down a fight. You don't have to say that you don't want the fight, but there are a lot of different ways to turn it down.

The idea that if Gennady has a fight one month after Canelo's fight...it's the reason this fight can't be made is ridiculous. All for mexican independence day...I don't see any other good reason why this fight wouldn't sell just as much on any other weekend in September or October. More garbage from Oscar. Canelo must have a ton of "YES" men around if he doesn't feel like his boxing pride is being tested. I'm not giving Canelo a pass anymore. Oscar told him not to fight Lara, and Canelo told him to make the fight anyway. Canelo doesn't want it if this fight isn't after Chavez.

it may or may not sell more or less on a different date. We don't know. What we do know is that canelo and golden boy are the a side/lead promoter for that fight. Canelo is Mexican and they want that fight on that date. Want to promote as soon as the Chavez fight is done... what's so hard to understand?
