You ask why GGG would want to be unified champion in his division rather than rematch somebody he just barely beat on saturday. Perhaps you should try to gain the mentality of a champion who is looking to history to remember his achievements...not how much money lined his bank accounts. You say that he is rolling along picking up "paper belts" instead of saying defeating "paper champions". Unifying actually improves boxing...it seperates the paper from the real...and forces anybody who wants the belts to have to follow lineage. How many splintered champions spend time avoiding real challenges just cashing out. Billy Joe Saunders is a classic example and the sooner golovkin removes him from the picture the better. Because if canelo gets that belt...unification goes out the window for another 10 years...and the money masters who now run boxing will just continue to feed the fans shet fight after shet fight. Its the bug bear of all boxing fans...no true champions.
Excellent post! I live in the UK, where boxing is still the king of combat sports, with the UFC a distant second. But I keep reading here that, in the States, UFC has now overtaken boxing as the most popular combat sport.

I also keep reading about the reason for that .. the UFC has one champion in every division, and if the UFC champion doesn't fight his No1 challenger, when the UFC tell him to, that's it, he loses his title.

That was the way boxing used to be run in the good old days . the days that made me a life-long fan of this fantastic sport.

It sickens me to see the only world boxing champ right now who is not only making the right noises about "cleaning up" his division, but backing his words up with action, being dissed for it by people like the ignoramus who wrote this childish article.

I'm also sickened by the hypocricy and crass ******ity I'm seeing in this comments thread. The same people who, a while back, were ****ting on GGG and calling him a liar for saying it was the title belts he wanted, not the guys who were wearing them, are now calling him a coward for doing exactly what he told us he was going to do from day one .. focus on unifying the MW division.

So hopefully it will be Saunders then all the titles will be won in the ring except one and that one the lineal was handed to him.

HOPPY is sweating this OUT ! Hahahahaha
Fraud Maynever is a coward and cheat! He's made millions moonlighting as boxer when in reality he's a marathon runner! He's afraid to engage in a proper fight because the last time he did Mosley nearly bent him over twice so he sticks to what he knows best - running! The only people he can KO are ones who aren't looking (Ortiz) and women!

      • There is one statement that is incorrect here. Bhop did not move up because he beat all comers at 160. He stayed at 160, making defenses until he lost his belts and then lost a rematch. Only then did he decide to move-up in weight.
Hagler did it first, staying at 160 for his entire career. Bhop stayed at 160 until past his 40th birthday; anyone that criticizes GGG for not moving up doesn't understand boxing.
I agree that a Jacobs rematch should be next, but if gives Jacobs a rematch in less than 12 mo., I have no issue with that

        • Imo Jacobs was the best opponent and the top of the 160-pound division ...no crime going to a decision everyone expects GGG just a bulldoze through every1, it doesn't work like that...

          • triple G should pursue fights like Charlo, Lara, Or Eubank Jr. These guys can whoop billy joe Saunders any day. We deserve good fights and not meaningless fight cards

Canelo didn't give a **** about his belts. Jacobs cared so much about the belts, he blew off the IBF's silly second weigh-in. Hell, Felix Sturm dumped a belt not to fight him when most people didn't know who GGG was. So it pretty much renders your claim of making everybody go through him as a reason to chase bum ass paper trinket holders.
Mediocre fights. Who are you kidding? If everything goes the way GGG's team wants things to go he would have fought Daniel Jacobs, Billy Joe Sanders and Canelo Alvarez in consecutive fight. And as long as GGG doesn't have any injuries or cuts he'll try to pursue a 4th fight at the end of the year. That's 3 top 5 middleweights in consecutive fights. Daniel Jacobs has only fought 3 top 5 middleweights in his entire career. And you guys are *****ing about GGG . We're not d!ckriders. You're are all haters. That's all it is.

But if you look at his welterweight and jr middleweight resume. Pretty much everyone he fought was either a reigning beltholdrr or mandatory. And he had several unification fights. So if GGG's belt quest is such a great thing. Why was Floyd criticized for basically doing the same thing?
Floyd was criticized more for not taking the tough fights, i.e. not fighting Mosely until he was 39, a multitude of excuses to fight Pacquiao, then fighting him when he was not in his prime, fighting JMM at catchweight, then not making weight, criticizing pac for catchweights and then doing the same v Canelo, etc., not unification fights

But yeah Jacobs definitely won the fight hahaha.
Are you Spoon23? Watching the fight in Slow Motion?

Jacobs outboxed Lil g for 7 rounds (latter half of fight) and landed more significant punches aside from the KD. Pitter patter jabs that do nothing don't count as much as a mean combination to the dome piece.

                    • I agree with the score. I prefer a rematch, but I'm not upset about him wanting Saunders. It's not him. It's the belt. BJS just happens to have it. And that's one thing GGG has been consistent about. I don't like all these belts, but it's the reality of the sport today, and I think wanting to unify is a reasonable goal.
