Perhaps people are down on him because they think he lost to an 8-1 underdog who was the best opponent he faced.

When you struggle as such a huge favorite, win or lose, people may not see you in the same light.

being a favorite means nothing, it is just an opinion of a bookie and the public who can get things right or wrong. to me this was a 60/40 fight, and i didn't think he lost and most didn't think he lost, some do, i attribute that to the perception that the 8-1 underdog doing better than expected and getting the benefit of the doubt in closer rounds because if GGG doesn't convincingly win a round then he loses it.

Judged by the standards ggg and his team set for himself; he can beat anybody from 154-168. Which I highly doubt to be true now. Yes he's a hype job who hyped himself up to standards that he can't meet.

Now that's is a strange observation .. considering how everybody GGG has fought since turning pro was from 154-168 and he beat them all.
