Well its a little more complicated than that "Sherlock." There isn't really anywhere for him to go why create a red herring out of the heavyweight division? Are you bored or something? Some guys like Archie Moore or Roy Jones, could go all the way up the food chain from the middle divisions, thats a fact...think big and release the hate, you will think more clearly.

if I am a promoter I have to ask...where is my golden goose going to lay his eggs once he dispenses with the Russian? He can't go down and fight Golovkin...thats the money fight...there are no up and commers to clean out of the upper echelons of the middle division...Ward couldn't fight cruiser even if someone was a good match at that weight, vis a vis his long term prospects are limited. Compare De La Hoya when he was hitting his twilight....He was looking at Mosley, Quartey, Vernon Forrest, Nando....so as long as he wanted to fight he had money fights on the table. Compare that to Ward's situation as a promoter.

You called my opinion a delusion....possably, but opinions will never be facts. That would apply to any such prognostications regarding Ward's rematch. it tells me something that you call my opinion a fact and it ain't a good thing Lucy!! The salty tears of the haters can run a solar battery...keep em comin' but lets keep basic logic intact shall we? Opinions are fun things we throw around to make it interesting...Facts are things that are true.

      • damn looks like kovalev really did beat the fight out of that coward andrea ward.if ward truly believed he won and is better he would rematch kovalev right away and leave no doubt.this sudden talk of retiring is bs he wasn't talking about retiring before he fought kov only afterwards he's freaking 30.he's trying to chicken out of the rematch he knows he cant move forward without kovalev enforcing the rematch clause so he'll just retire instead. that's the cowards way out.

        • Very poor if he retires.

I had Ward winning the first one but he needs to do the right thing and give Kovalev a deserved rematch.

Your name will not be mentioned among any of the greats of your era, someone will mention your name and people will say "Oh thats the guy that retired rather than honor the rematch with Kovalev right? Screw that guy." You were on the good end of a controversial decision, I along with an overwhelming amount of people had Kovalev winning but thats how fights like that go sometimes. The greats are anxious to remove all doubt, be great dont be a duck.
Couldnt have been put any better, he will be pissing on his entire legacy so retiring to save face and avoid kovalev so he doesnt take an L (if he shall lose which is a high probablity which is why he is even thinking of retiring) will hurt his legacy more than actually winning the first fight.

Ward learned a lesson facing Kovalev, those 175 guys can punch, and there is a much better level IMO at 175 in 2017 than 168 during the super six period where the top guys were Kessler, Froch, and the turtle Abraham.

Stevenson, Kova, Beterbeast, that Ukranian olympic gold medalist guy, Ward could be badly hurt in those fights...

IMO Ward doesn't really like the boxing life but more his family life.

I won't judge him for that, but P4P number 1 and LHW champ of the world? Hmmm give those belts back bro and retire.
I hear ya but its Ward pride that is making the decision the dude is shallow as can be and this proves it because if he was really family first/family man he wouldnt let his pride get in the way jeopardizing his paydays, it wouldn't even be a thought. I would respect ward more as a man (in the grand scope of teh word) if he just avoided kovalev* and kept it moving and fought other dudes and kept that money coming in off other opponents he can beat. Fuck the criticism cause you gonna get that regardless but what the retirement talk is all about from ward is just to protect his pride.

*which he might actually be doing with this ploy, says he gonna retire wait till kovalev signs another fight and then come back and say hes back and sign to fight someone else and ride that out. Cause he has a legally binding contract that says he must rematch kovalev this might be his attempt to skirt that.

Yeah, Eubank was 31 years old + never had been stopped or outclassed in his whole career.

              Joe retired him.
So Eubank is now better than anyone Ward has fought??? Whateva.

              • if andrea retires without giving kovalev the rematch he'll never live it down it will be a huge black eye on his career.

                • I think Ward wins the rematch (though I thought he clearly lost the first fight). In the first he had the wrong idea that he could outbox Kovalev, he could not. In a rematch he'll put on a grappling exhibition right from the start, winning the fight...and losing the fans.

                  • If you have to think about it surely it's time to retire.
