This is not a good fight for Toney to take. Wlad Klitschko is not some lumbering caveman who just wings shots from left field and will miss a lot. He is a well schooled fighter who is extremely accurate and fast, as well as being way way bigger and stronger than Toney.
Toney would take a severe beating, and the sight of Klitschko beating the hell out of another severely undersized former middleweight directly after his fight with Byrd would not be good for Klitschko either or for the heavyweight division for that matter.
Thats a good point, but he's gotta fight a top contender before fighting the winner of Sultan/Ruiz.
i think i posted already in this thread about rahmans "alleged" power in his right. he hasnt committed to throwing a serious right hand since lennox lewis knocked him ******. i was watching him fight frankie swindell on ESPN classic and he was afraid to throw a right hand, and this is against a journeyman fighter. he never came close to committing to any real power in the toney fight either, true it wasnt necessary to win the fight, but the point is that it wasnt a strategy, thats just how he fights now.
rahman vs wlad is just as bad a mismatch as toney vs. wlad
rahmans strengths are his jab and powerful right. wlads jab makes rahmans look like little league, and wlads right hand is considerably better also whether or not people want to admit it
rahman wouldnt last 6 rounds with wlad.
toney could at least do that even though he will lose every round,
whether its from holding back the right hand in fear or not rahmans days of putting quality heavyweights on the mat have been long over. its been years since he recorded a big knockout. only guy he's stopped in his last several fights was meehan and he hit meehan with everything and still meehan finished on his feet without ever touching the canvas. rahman does still have a pretty strong jab when he uses it,,,which is often sporadic
Could someone explain to me why Toney is even being considered as an opponent and what he has done to earn a 3rd consecutive title shot, failing in 2 consecutive attempts. Has there ever been a fighter who has failed in 2 consecutive title shots and been immediately gifted with a third (and possibly a fourth if he gets Rahman/Maskaev winner)?
Imagine if this was Wlad, failing in two straight title shots, and getting an immediate third. LOL Bozo, Gunstar, all the usual suspects... their heads would explode. But Toney? Toney, sure, get as many title shots as you need, no matter how fat you come in, no matter what roids you use, no matter how poor you perform, just keep getting those shots.
I guess my question is, what does Toney have to do before the division is done with him? Come in at 250 and lose? Test positive for pcp and crystal meth? **** a monkey? Hijack a plane?
He should be sent on the comeback trail. "Beat Brock. Beat Ibragimov. Beat some contenders. Then come back and we'll talk." That's what HBO should be saying to him. Not "Yeah, which title do you want a shot at next?" It's ridiculous.

But Toney did not lose, he a got a draw. That usually warrants a second title shot, Golota got two of them; drawed with Byrd, lost to Ruiz then Brewster. I say the hell with it.

well,,,although I felt rahman edged toney,,,it was scored a draw,,so technically toney is still undefeated at heavyweight and he's one of the most known and marketable fighters out there so that will always help get title shots whether its fair or not. if you can put butts in the seats you'll get opportunities that you normally wouldnt get. just the way the fight buisness is

yep,,,,golota is another guy that didnt deserve all those chances but he put butts in the seats. thats boxing like it or not

After the draw with Byrd, it was ok to get a shot against Ruiz but not after he lost to John. Im not complaining, it happens, its boxing. Roy Jones got a title shot the first time he fought at HW. So I guess a lot of it IS attracting fans.

Toney is undefeated as an HW. The only reason Wlad may consider fighting Toney, is because of Toney's power. Who the **** as Wlad beaten?? A paper champ in Bird, who should've lost his last 4 fights, but for some reason he was getting gift after gift.
A green Peter who he went down 3 times to & was holding for dear life in the whole fight, was lucky that Nady was not the ref or else he would've been DQ.
Stopped 3 times, by guys like Sanders, Puritty & Brewster. Was also hurt by Dave Chappelle. So you Wlad nut-huggers don't act like Wlad has such a great resume.

Big difference.
Golota beat Byrd and Ruiz in the eyes of most. He got the shot against Ruiz because most felt that he beat Byrd. He got the shot with Brewster because most felt that he beat Ruiz (I still feel that was a corrupt- with a capital C- decision, there is no way in hell Ruiz won 9 rounds of that fight... 7-5 for Ruiz and Golota wins on points, 8-4 for Ruiz and Golota wins on points, they gave Ruiz the exact ammount of rounds he needed to win by a point, why? Because King knows Golota is a draw with or without a belt, and Ruiz is off the map and out of the picture without a belt).
Toney was totally gifted with a draw, everyone had him losing rather easily. I don't see Toney's performance against Rahman being anywhere near worthy of an immediate THIRD consecutive title shot.
