  • Dempsey would be a light heavy if he was a top level pro in 2017....

He would probably beat some B/C level guys at heavy because its such a weak division but he is too small for Klits/AJ/Wilder/Fury level of opponents.

How does that relate to boxing?

A boxer from today vs a boxer from the 20's, would still be just 2 men, one on one, in a battle of skills in a ring. There hasn't been any new inventions. No new punches or techniques.

How would Dempsey get laughed at in today's era?

How do you know Greb couldn't win a title today? Do you know anything about the man?

      The 20's contained:

      Dempsey
      Greb
      Tunney
      Leonard
      Wilde

Are you telling me that Jimmy Wilde and Benny Leonard couldn't have competed today?

      Based on what?
They would compete today... as light heavies. You know those guys were 180s/190s right?

If size didnt matter, boxing wouldnt have divisions.

        He'd be a CW.

I never said size doesn't matter.

The footwork...the head movement...he looks exactly like Mike Tyson in that clip.

Which is no coincidence because Cus D'Amato deliberately modeled the peekaboo style based on Jack Dempsey.

There's not a single top heavyweight today who knows how to bob and weave like that.

That's pure bull****. Today's light heavyweights walk around at 190 unconditioned. Dempsey cut down from 227 unconditioned.

This is probably one of the dumbest posts in this thread.

But how does that relate to 2 fighters facing off in a ring?
Firstly it proves Mr. Mojo is a really stubborn person because he denies this fact. If he can't accept it like you can how can you have a rational conversation.
Secondly, it's simply Human nature as to why it relates to the analogies. Just like every single thing that has improved in life, Boxing has also improved. The facilities, the striking technique etc.

Boxing has more money pumped in from grassroots to the pros than ever before. It's only natural we'd churn out better Boxers over the years.

I never said that the United States would lose. I just said that it isn't 100% concrete that the US would win. We have 2 million man military. In WW2 we had 8 million. You can name all the bombs you want but soldiers win wars. You obviously don't know anything about warfare. The United States won't just go dropping bombs on people. Innocent civilians die from bombs. The ****s engaged in lightning war (blitzkrieg) which made them very effective quickly.

Obviously if I was betting my money I would put it on the US (who would be the overwhelming favorite).

But this has nothing to do with boxing. I have shown you aspects of life that have decreased since Dempsey's era. Also, I have provided facts and video evidence that attest to Dempsey's skill. You continue to ARROGANTLY deny these facts, plugging your ears chanting "La la la la".

There were MORE boxers active during Dempsey's time than today.

No new techniques or punches have been invented since the 20's.

Sure, there's guys today who are better than the guys of the 20's, but you can't generalise and say that every pro today is better than every pro of Dempsey's era.

Using an analogy of the armed forces from then and now, can't be used as evidence to say that every HW of today would have beaten Dempsey.

The greatest fighters of all time could compete in any era.
