If PBC had belts would you respect / acknowlege them over the Alpphabet titles?

HBO leaving boxing results in Haymon having a monopoly on major US boxing. If he has a monopoly on major US boxing, there's absolutely no reason to keep paying the orgs and you haven't been able to present one.
The orgs still existing and still having champions will be irrelevant because they'll have no major US TV presence. Out of sight, out of mind.
And without their cut of the big American fights, there's not enough money to keep them all in business.
But to ditch the belts right now would be foolish. Haymon doesn't have a monopoly yet. Giving HBO access to a bunch of belts would be counter productive. Haymon needs to hoard as many belts as possible right now.
His power continues to grow every year. More champions every year. More top contenders every year. He just needs to stay the course right now.
It's not a question of convincing anybody that "the 5th one" is the best. To the general public, a title fight is a title fight because HBO or Showtime says it is. If HBO is gone and Haymon controls the major TV that's left, then to the general public, a title fight is whatever that TV says is a title fight.
At that point, if PBC says instead of recognizing four champions per division, we're only going to recognize one, why would the general public reject it? It's what they've always wanted.Comment

not saying they'll pack up and leave, i'm saying they'll be blocked out of major US TV. and therefore would be completely irrelevant in the US.
if haymon didn't have the power to cripple them, why do you think they were freaking out when PBC debuted and wouldn't let the belts be shown on TV? scrambling to call an emergency meeting where the heads of the major orgs met with haymon in person to plead their case.
haymon knew exactly what he was doing. now he has more power with the orgs than ever. there's no rush to get rid of them. he could do it ten years from now if he wanted. what's important right now is keeping those belts away from his competition.Comment

People respect winners.
We saw that with floyd mayweather. Not exactly the most entertaining boxing style although big fights with hatton and primarily delahoya that ended up being fun to watch did help his brand.
The promoters exploit the notion that people respect winners by matching a big name against a fighter who further pushes the narrative that the star fighter is still a premier fighter in the sport. The recent examples are endless. The opponent in the following ppv fights had less than a 20% chance of winning: canelo khan, canelo smith, pac vargas, joshua molina. Ward kovalev was the only competitive ppv headliner.
And its continuing. Cotto is gonna look like a million bucks vs kirkland. All hes gotta do is ride the wave of the first couple rounds .
Anyway, ive mentioned the following a few weeks ago. Haymon could buy out all the sanctioning bodies and get rid of all of them but preserve one or create a pbc title. This would be good for boxing. Fans would be able to see who the number 1 fighter is. Promoters no longer would be able to use a belt as a tool to fool the public. One of the reasons why ufc is popular is because its easy for fans to follow a narrative as to who the best is. At the moment, boxing is a free-for-all **** show royal rumble scramble for moneyComment

As for UFC, they are but one of dozens and dozens of MMA championships. But the public sees them as a clear cut #1, so the rest really don't matter.
That is what PBC needs to accomplish eventually. Getting the US public to see them as the clear cut #1. Europe is always going to want their own world champions, so is Japan, Australia, etc. No different than every other sport having multiple leagues around the world.
But if PBC ignores every title except their own and if PBC is the only major televised boxing in the US, before long the US public will accept the PBC champions as the world champions. I think it's also important though that PBC reduce the number of weight classes. Those are the 2 biggest complaints fans have (too many divisions, too many champs in each division).
If PBC had 10-12 weight classes, with one champion per weight class, and the strongest television penetration, why wouldn't American fans value the PBC belt more than a WBO or WBA belt?Comment

we have been there, done that.....
this is like the 4th do-over, no point in saying everything again
it is clear what we disagree on.....
regarding the bold..... if PBC bought the belts, then they would have a monopoly, and they would also have all of the current champions..... so let's not start all that again
doing that will prevent/impact on the 4 ABC organisations ability to simply re-appoint new champions..... and it would be making a HUGE statement and have a HUGE impact
the slow accumulation of top fighters who can win all of the ABC belts will take years, is unlikely to ever be 100% successful, and could fall over at any hurdle..... legal or otherwise
the ABC bodies will catch on and refuse to rank PBC fighters long before that is established..... that road is filled with potholes and uncertainty
taking YEARS will give competitors time to form a rival organisation rather than watch their own demise..... nobody is going to pack up and leave, they would need to be evicted
let's agree to disagreeComment

you clearly have zero understanding of how al operates. he's the king of keeping his options open. he doesn't commit to anything until it's time to make the big move.
his contractual obligation to his fighters is ZERO. his contractual obligation to showtime is ZERO. his contractual obligation to dibella/brown/margules/schaefer is ZERO. his contractual obligation to the wbc/wba/ibf is ZERO.
and as long as he's not bound to anything, everybody has to bend over backward for him to stay on his good side.
the ABC bodies *did* catch on and instead of refusing to rank PBC fighters, they treat PBC fighters better than ever. that is the genius of al haymon. he did the same thing in the concert biz. in the end he's going to leave you high and dry, but you need him so bad in the moment that you just keep kicking the can down the road trying to ignore your inevitable fate.
the only group with the balls to stand up to him was HBO because they realized how vulnerable they were, BUT, standing up to him ended up being a huge disaster. which just reinforces haymon's power because everybody else sees that you have no choice but to let him slowly walk you off the plank. standing up to him just seals your fate quicker.Comment

What makes you think 2017 is the final year for PBC? From all accounts I've heard, their financial backing are taking a long term 10-year-like plan with them, the TV numbers have been about what one could expect, and they have signed up basically an entire generation of prospects, who will only continue to become more well known as the PBC marketing machine starts to kick up and the established names in boxing begin to lose to Father Time.
I don't think you appreciate just how much capital was put into PBC to get this up and running and what their big picture plans are.Comment
