If PBC had belts would you respect / acknowlege them over the Alpphabet titles?

the alphabelts only gained power because TV wanted them. they keep their power because TV wants them. if US TV ever rejects them, they're toast.

haymon can't afford to reject them until he's got his longterm TV deal and HBO pulls out of the business.

wasn't that long ago that the WBU was considered a "world" title in the UK because the TV networks allowed it. when sky said no more WBU, the WBU was a cooked goose. when sky said no more IBO and when gary shaw lost his grip of showtime, the IBO lost all of their momentum and still hasn't recovered.

PBC would need a hostile takeover for that to work.... they would need to restructure boxing officially, not become the 5th opinion proclaiming to be the best, no matter how many of the "old" titles they managed to grab

Haymon controls every major US boxing broadcaster except for HBO. If HBO exits the business, Haymon controls everything.

If Haymon controls everything, he could effectively shut the alphabelts out of any major US fights. They lose their 3% of the big US money and it becomes impossible for them to all thrive and/or survive.

It's not that there's 1 channel. Obviously there are hundreds of channels. But there are 10 English channels showing world title fights and Haymon controls 9 of them. For those not in the US, it might be hard to understand just how much power Haymon has and how unstoppable he becomes if HBO ever exits the business.

FS1 & Bounce pay a modest license fee as well. The time buys were NBC, CBS, FOX & ESPN, although the most recent CBS show was not a time buy.

NBC & ESPN were not spending major money on boxing before PBC and there's no reason to believe they would after. But eliminating Friday Night Fights for years as well as taking FS1 away from Golden Boy might it very tough for non-PBC promoters to develop prospects.

Meanwhile, PBC prospects are moving on to win world championships left and right and almost all of the most sought after American prospects end up signing within the PBC umbrella.

Not really, they just need the relevant fighters and champions, they have the money and the networks already. It doesn't need to be a complete world domination of a sanctioning body, it just needs to be the most relevant "league" like the MLB or NBA.
