Gennady Golovkin will be 35 years old by the time April 2017 comes around, has had a single sizable payday (to travel to London for $4m), and will not do a damn thing to jeopardize a Alvarez payday (who has signed a direct longterm deal with HBO) that his camp seems to openly believe to be worth well in excess of $10m.

Kovalev and Ward spent months negotiating before signing contracts with HBO a year out, and they didn't actually sign to fight each other till a month before the fight happened.

Neither of them accepted the first offer they were sent by the other and just signed it, without any counter offer or negotiation, which is what you are saying GGG should do for Canelo.

There would have been no need for a purse bid if Canelo had offered GGG $5million and 160 to fight last Sept, instead of just vacating without making any offers at all.
