only way i would defend this is if its a permanent switch into 168 and this is the first fight to test the waters. Does nothing for GGG's cv beating chavez although it might be a fairly entertaining fight to watch.

It depends what else happens during the year. If he gets Jacobs in March, and Canelo in September, then part of the Canelo negotiations could be that he needs to bring his belts with him.

So if its a case of not fighting in May, vs a fight against JCC or Ramirez (where his belts aren't on the line), then I'd rather he fought than he didn't fight in May.

I doubt Saunders can make a date in May as he'll still be at fat camp after Xmas. But if GGG could finish the year with Saunders, then that would be one hell of a year - Jacobs/Chavez or Ramirez/Canelo/Saunders.

But its boxing, chances of all that happening likely to fall at the first fence (Jacobs).

But if his only fight in the year was Chavez, then, umm, yeah, thats pretty much early-retirement.

kind of like how Canelo said " We want Liam Smith"

Exactly! Canelo wanted a belt, money, and easy work! Sanchez is looking for the same thing, except there's no belt involved!

wish hed just stop wasting time with canelo and jacobs cause the clock is ticking whilst they are fannying about. Should concentrate on making fights with people who actually want to fight him, if charlo is serious then get that fight going, send canelo a final offer, if he says no then move up to 168. Danger is he spends all this time waitin for canelo, the fight never happens and hes wasted the last two or three years when hes in his prime (or relatively close).

I've had no problem criticizing the catchweight bs, nor will I. I don't have any criticism towards dropping that belt though, that mandated a split that was simply unrealistic and isn't going to happen.

A contract was sent (similar to the Ward-Kovalev deal), the fight was on the table. They wanted more money, despite it being by FAR a career high and a fight that could launch him to superstar status.

                  Ward, but 'at 164'.

that is exactly right, you can tell the real boxing fans.....

Canelo was lame and unprofessional for giving himself an extra pound that likely did not benefit his JMW opponents as much as it benefited him..... but he did not use that 155lb catchweight to drain his opponents, he used it to make the last week in camp easier..... which is still lame and unprofessional

you could argue that 155 would benefit Canelo's JMW opponents just as much as it benefited him..... but that would be a reaching badly imho, because it was Canelo who demanded the catchweight

regarding Golovkin, Canelo said "I am not a middleweight..... I will fight you tomorrow at 155"..... which would have been fine had Canelo not been holding the WBC middleweight title at the time..... he should have dumped that shht immediately following the Cotto fight, and nobody could say a damn thing..... which again, was pretty lame on Canelo's part.....

..... but that is nothing compared to the blatant weight manipulation employed by the likes of Pacquiao, and to a lesser extent Golovkin, with the 164/Ward 166/Froch demands

how these guys can spin their bullshht is baffling, they are only lying to themselves

Of course he would be slammed again, doesn't make sense not going up to 160 because "he was not a MW" and then suddenly bypassing 160 to fight at SMW territory.

But let's be honest, at least he ain't picking WW's to fight @155, it would be the first time he has a big weight disadvantage and Chavez has a cihn.

So even thou it might turn into a circus I actually like the combination, let's see how Canelo looks again a big boy who has a chin and throws punches in bunches. I think this would be a great preparation to face GGG and would let us see how Canelo reacts against a bigger guy than him.

PD: Actually I like both fights Canelo vs Chavez jr. and GGG vs Chavez jr.
but some dcafs hiere would tell you that Canelo is a ***** for taking this fight yet GGG and Chavez Jr. would be a graet fight...................where is the logic in there???
