I remember when Mayweather was set to fight Corrales. That was a pickup fight at the time. Some said Mayweather, some said Corrales.

Just because Mayweather won, does that mean Corrales was over hyped at the time? I don't think so.

One guy had to win last night and it was Charlo. I don't think Williams was over hyped at all.
Mayweather and Corrales were p4p fighters and much more proven then these 2...Like i said these 2 fought at the correct times of their careers and i have no issue with that..But why all the ridiculous hype?? let the kids grow into men and stop acting like they proved they are elite.. Look at J-Rocks resume WHO THE HELL HAS THIS GUY FOUGHT??

        Absolutely.

Broner, Matthysse (probably the worst case I can remember), Porter, Berto, Lacy...all these guys at one point were monsters.

Charlo looked solid last night, but it was against a guy who has beaten nobody and who has a suspect chin. We saw Charlo was a good fighter when he edged past Trout, but keep things in perspective; Lara toyed with and dropped a better version of Trout and a 21 year old Canelo beat and dropped a prime Trout.

Williams? We don't know what level he is. Only time will tell.

That's all about the eye test and why some people KSAB and others DKSAB

I had guys telling me Spence was the truth way back in 2014. Some people said Mayweather was the truth way back in 2001.

It's called the eye test and knowing SAB for a reason. Some people can do it and are right. There's nothing wrong with that.

I'm not saying call someone a future ATG or Fighter of the Decade like you and the other guy mlac did. No, I'm not saying to go that far.

But I started a thread about Benevidas being a future champ without having fought the #1 guy yet and I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

I also said Kovalev will be a future ATG and one of the best Light Heavies to lace them up; I don't think there's anything wrong with that. We'll see. It's all off the eye test.

I think we as boxing fans get a little to damn excited after fights. Sure at 26 this is a fight he had to win and a i applaud him for it and will say he is on the right path. But is he fights Canelo next i see it being a brutal night for him. There are levels in this sport and Canelo is an Elite well crafted fighter and Charlo seem to be a couple levels below. I wish the young man much success but lets stop hyping these damn kids up so fast and let them grow as fighters
Fans can do whatever the hell they want. Who cares if the fighter they hyped up losses. The show goes on, fans either stick with their guy or moves on to someone else. It's a sport, people are supposed to get excited, pick a fighter to hype and cheer, and enjoy the sport.

What we need to stop doing is advocating for marinating fights. Charlo is 26 years old, this is the time for the best matchups. These guys should be fighting at least 3 top fighters a years. No tuneups and no gimmes.

I know you'll like to think you're some type of wise old man but you're not. You're a boxing fan so stick to cheering the fighter you like and let other hype the fighters they want. That's the way the sport works.

I think that if the OP is true then we have to pay as much attention to the opposite of that.

We have to stop thinking that a loss automatically turns a good or great fighter into a can.

Sometimes a guy has another guys number, sometimes somebody has an off night or is dealing with out of ring issues that affect the performance in it.

I agree with the take that we had two good fighters in there last night and someone was going to lose.

I also think that the Charlos are on a slightly higher level than Williams.

They and Andrade are guys that definitely might be a problem for Canelo.

When Hopkins lost his first pro fight, did anyone guess that he'll be a legend?

                    Williams will bounce back.

Even as a fan and follower of Jrock, i was surprised at how confident people were that he was going to win this fight. I only changed my mind and said he would win in the week of the fight (for shame). Not only, as you correctly pointed out, has Williams not proven anything yet, it was also clear to anyone with eyes that Charlo is at least a very good fighter. Elite needs to be proven. But he is very good. No average joes are beating Trout, even if he did struggle.

I will still continue to watch prospects and enjoy them developing. But threads like the one proclaiming Julian a future ATG are just cringe worthy. Same as any now that are completely writing him off. The chin maybe an issue, time will tell. You arent supposed to get dropped that bad off a jab. But at the same time, chins that are on Amir Khan or David Price level normally show some signs even before they get obliterated. Ive watched lots of Jrocks fight and never seen him slightly wobble.

Anyways. Williams is far from done in this sport and i want to see what he does next. Im hoping he can get back to a decent level in the next few fights. He also needs to get top level sparring. I watched an interview with his trainer before the fight and he said they only get local guys in for sparring. No way to prepare for a world level fighter
