That was the point Mayweather was attempting to convey and also a point, in which Andre Ward is very uncomfortable with speaking about publicly. Andre notices the elephant in the room as well. However, at the same time, he realizes that in order for him to become a mainstream PPV crossover star, he cannot afford to marginalize his casual fan base by being a polarizing figure.
Lets just say that ridiculous theory is true about importing white undefeated fighters.....how does Ward affect that by being undefeated? It's not like anyone has to fight him. Ward has practically no management, a promoter who knows absolutely nothing about Boxing except how to throw money around, ZERO ppv appeal without a seriously intriguing opponent, he's never in the news, the dude barely even exists from a marketing standpoint. Only hardcore Boxing fans even know who he is.

He's guaranteed 5 million (and who knows what he's making beyond that, including numerous sponsors) and is something like the #3 highest paid boxer in 2016, if a article posted here recently was correct. So, he clearly knows what he's doing. Particularly if he's as low-profile as you think he is, making that much scratch is a real accomplishment.

That's just Jay Z throwing money around because he doesn't know any better and is gonna lose his ass. He could give Andre 100 Million if he wants, that has nothing to do with Andre's Boxing worth. Andre is a 750k fighter...IN OAKLAND. Anywhere else if he breaks 100k then the promoter is guaranteed to lose money.

Gennady Golovkin is the John Cena of HBO boxing. Therefore, they are actively seeking to bury Andre Ward, so that GGG can become the new face of the company.

Or maybe HBO is a business and like - you know they care about making money cos that's what businesses do.They don't care about what's 'good for boxing' they don't care about 'what's good' for Ward or Kovalev or GGG, they care about their bottom line. Period.

Set up to fail? **** outta here ... if that was the case he coulda just said no. HBO basically said they want a guarantee that if they're gonna pay him big $s and give him slots they want him to promise to take a big fight... which meant, at the present time, Golovkin or Kovalev. Who else is there? When Golovkin said no it meant basically Ward had to fight Kovalev or HBO wouldn't give him a contract. That ain't setting Ward up to fail, unless you've got a particularly paranoid point of reference, that's HBO seeking a return on investment.

He did over a million viewers against the virtually unknown Barrera and is about to headline a PPV in what is the most anticipated fight of the year. You can't alter reality to fit your bias.

Being undefeated makes Andre Ward relevant and a threat to HBO's Cash cow Gennady Golovkin, because it would force the boxing public to start demanding that they fight one another. Hypothetically speaking and what if by miracle or chance that Andre Ward just so happens to defeat Kovalev and remains undefeated? Then there is going to be a lot of pressure on HBO to make a Ward/Golovkin fight happen as soon as possible because they won't be able to protect Gennady forever. Those two would be the last ones standing. That is why HBO wants Andre Ward to fail so they won't have to match him against GGG because if he loses he's done.

A million viewers maybe on free TV...thats not very much. This is the genius paying Ward 5 million http://www.tmz.com/2016/11/15/prince...reaming-jay-z/

No. Win or lose, Ward is a light heavyweight now. Really always was. GGG is a Middleweight. Besides, Ward already turned down a GGG fight thats why he's so high in weight now. GGG fighting Ward would be like Ward fighting Anthony Joshua. both scenarios are 2 weight classes apart.

It's funny to think back on the Super Six being set up for Arthur Abraham. He was a huge favorite to win it after stopping Jermain Taylor.

I understand Mayweather's viewpoint here, but I disagree highly with it. Maybe HBO worries about Golovkin fighting Ward, but that's a huge fight for them to make. I doubt they care more about protecting Golovkin than making money off him. That's why they pushed for Kovalev, because it was another big fight they could make money off of. And thankfully Ward was up for it. Now we get the best fight of the year and a new p4p king.

Peopls who never went to college like to play smart, and that's about Floyd. ...He may be right or not...or maybe it's a setup for Kovalev...maybe it was a setup for Abraham...Floyd is a racist and envy of these upcoming European fighters grabbing p4p seats and that's why when he sees close fight he talks about conspiracy. He probably thinks GGG vs Floyd is a conspiracy too to get his 0 and that's why he will never fight him
