The biggest conspiracy in boxing is for promoters and fanboy writers to do anything they can to make as much money as possible.

FM was the cash cow for boxing, Nevada and Las Vegas. So there just might have been some interests by those parties in keeping that streak going.
I'm not talking about throwing a fight, just possibly a friendly ref or sympathetic judges.
If FM wants to talk conspiracies, I'd say that's more feasible than some kind of plan to make a boxer like Ward, who most casuals don't know, lose to a Russian fighter who casuals know even less.
