Floyd is basically admonishing Ward because he should only take fights he is 100% sure of winning. At least, that's what Floyd thinks.

Ward needed to step up in competition, since the super 6 he has not fought anyone, he has been living in past glory, now we will see if he still has it, because people still brag about the boxing and IQ that ward has and in his last 3 or 4 fights he's looked very beatable, and that is against weak opposition, I don't know why HBO or rock nation didn't request Ward to fight tougher opposition sooner, only granting tune up fights to fight who? lol! Now he has a real test in front of him, I do hope he comes @ the final bell with the win, but I doubt the fight will last 12 rounds.

        Ward says:

I didn't get invited to the Super Six. Myself, Andre Dirrell and Jermain Taylor - we didn't get invited to the Super Six because they thought we were these great fighters. We made it interesting. It was about Arthur Abraham. It was about Carl Froch. It was about those guys. It was about Mikkel Kessler. And as the tournament went on - people kind of turned on them and said they were European fighters and one-dimensional - but that's not what they said in the beginning.
On this he is wrong. I have never read anyone suggesting Kessler or Froch are 3D fighters. Cong**** on winning it but this is incorrect. Calzaghe, Kovalev, Hopkins they are 3D type fighters.. Froch & Kessler are not! Great yes but 3D no.

Hating on a Ward-Kov fight kind of sums up why boxing is falling off a little at this present time.

For a fighter/ex-fighter to say that making this big fight is trying to push a fighter to defeat is why we aren't seeing the fights we want to see nowadays.

This is what the fans want. Everyone's excited for this one.
This is a great thing, not a bad one. It's why the fans watch the sport to begin with. HBO, Main events, RocNation and the 2 fighters have done a good thing here. It's nothing to get bitter about.

Yeah, the fans want to see these once-in-a-lifetime fights - so they can move on to the next "hope" and turn on them. Look at how fast Erik Morales went down in draw after losing to Manny despite being one of the greatest. It's BS.

Meanwhile, to this day, a year after retiring, TBE is still getting talked about, interviewed with and called out.

Clearly, his strategy did something right.

To quote Roger Mayweather: "He got his ass whooped by Oli McCall!"

Lewis never went to war. He clinched more than Floyd ever did.

Any boxing fan who doesn't want to see fights like Ward - Kovalev, well..i'd question if they really were fans of the sports at all.
In fact, i wouldn't question it..the fact they see a negative in getting the best fights the sports has to offer, speaks volumes.

The alternative to not getting these 'once in a lifetime fights'..is well, not getting them.
Imagine that, all those super-fights through-out history that got us hooked on the sport didn't happen because the fighters didn't want to take a 'L'.

2016 has been another poor year for the sport. In a time when the norm seems to be miss-matches and the top guys not facing eachother, Ward - Kovalev is a massive breath of fresh air. It's exactly what the sport need. This year, or any year.

... basically, when coming back from retirement, Ward had two options:

-- take uncle's Al direction and fight the likes of Stevenson and Beterbiev...
-- take HBO's direction and fight Kovalev (after a number of money tune-ups)...

Ward chose the most profitable option...
