Very true. What people are also missing is that Canelo has a PPV deal with HBO and it is not Canelo's or Golden Boy's responsibility to offer Golovkin any more money than a flat rate. It is K2's responsibility to get a PPV deal with HBO. When Canelo fought Khan, Khan had a Box Nation deal in place in the UK so he was bring money to the table. Can that be said about a GGG who's supposed fan base is mostly a Mexican fan base that already supports Canelo to point that he has the Mexican Azteca, TV and US HBO PPV deals? What exactly does Golovkin bring to the negotiations table in a Canelo fight.....not much.

Furthermore, there is no Lineal/RING championship mandated purse split because there is no mandatory opponent. Golden Boy/Canelo are not ****** enough to allow any of the sanctioning bodies to take over this fight with their rules and mandates.

GGG's mexican fair weather fans will disappear the night of the fight when he fights Canelo. It will be a pro Canelo crowd because any mexican cheering for ggg will get chastised out of the arena. If it goes 12 I see Canelo getting the nod.

He isn't a proven seller. He has a lot of buzz but that buzz hasn't translated to being a proven commodity that can sell 350k+ PPV's.

Now he definitely deserves a cut f the PPV because the fight rather than either men is what is going to generate ticket sales.

It was never projected to do big numbers. 150k views is still $$$, much more than most fighters get fighting on regular TV, much more than Canelo was likely making fighting on Floyd's undercards at that time. I bet you thought Terence Crawford-Postol was a step forward in Crawford's career and he did 1/3 of GGG. Who knows what Canelo would have sold at that time as a headliner? Possibly even less.

And since you ignored the question about him getting PPV upside, I assume that means you know you're wrong, in which case the whole discussion is moot. No PPV fight projected at over 1M buys, where both fighters are necessary for a PPV of that size, happens without both fighters getting a % of the PPV revenue. Every boxing fan knows that. Can't legitimately call a boxer with one 150,000 PPV in his 35 fight career a "proven seller". Canelo has absolutely no reason to offer or give Golovkin 30% of a PPV unless Golovkin proves he can generate more than 100,000 PPV's in the US. Canelo generate more than double Golovkin's lone PPV when he fought Lara and Angulo. The numbers matter in a negotiation.

Canelo made around $12 million total for the 2nd highest grossing fight in history. You think Golovkin should get more? You're delusional.
