"In promotions there is an A-side and a B-side, and Canelo is the A-side of any negotiation," stated De La Hoya to ESPN Deportes. "Because we are in the era of Canelo, it is Canelo's time."
"Consequently, we are not willing to negotiate based on percentages in that promotion. When the time comes (?), we will make an offer to Golovkin, a very good deal, in which he will earn more than he's ever won in his career, and he will decide whether or not to accept it. That offer will be presented to Golovkin when Saul Alvarez is ready to invade 160 pound division."

... WTF??? Oscar: "when Saul Alvarez is ready to invade 160 pound division."

Bu, but, but... Canelo doesn't have "to invade" the middleweight division, because he already holds the "lineal" title and The Ring belt at the 160!!!

    • If the fight is just a fight with no title at stake then 157 is half way between 154 and 160 and that's fair and reasonable. If the fight is for GGG's middleweight title then it should be fought at a weight limit of 160 pounds and not an ounce less. The middleweight championship of the world doesn't mean the Jr. middleweight championship of the world plus a pound or two. Martinez was wrong to give Williams a title shot at a 157 pound catchweight. That started a bad trend of the WBC middleweight title no longer being a 160 pound title but a title for guys like Cotto and Canelo to set their own weight limit somewhere below 160.

To be frank that would be fair. But payday needs to be 4-6 mil. Ggg could then turn tables on rematch. But knowing de la Hoya and the rematch that never took place against Trinidad, I wouldn't hold breath on a rematch win lose or draw.

        • Goes a couple of ways depending on how you look at it either GGG should accept a flat fee just to get the fight and a big win on his CV and increase his future ppv sales, or this fight is far bigger as anything either can do without the other and GGG needs his percentage of ppv revenue out of fairness personally am in the second camp as I think DLH seems to be trying to make excuses for the fight not to happen which is fair as I dont see Canelo having much of chance.

          • that flat fee will be his biggest purse ever, but on the flip side he deserves some of the PPV come on now

            • It's Oscar's way of saying the fight will never happen because GGG and his team are not going to take a flat fee. Say what you want about A-side or B-side, GGG is the MW champ and deserves a split and not a flat fee. Bottom line the fight will never happen unless GGG calls there bluff and take the flat fee just to kick Canelo's ass and prove a point! Oscar De La Hoya is turning into this generations version of Bob Arum!

              • Sounds fair as long as they don't low ball ggg.
I'm a Canelo fan and I definitely wanna see this fight. I think 8-10 million for ggg with no ppv share is fair. Canelo is the A-side and ggg needs Canelo, not the other way around.
As far as ggg having the belts, that's irrelevant. All the belts are a joke these days so I don't put any weight on championship belts anymore

Furthermore, Canelo has the ability to get any opponent he wants while Golovkin does not. Now add that to the facts that Canelo has been in the main event of some of the biggest PPV's of the past couple of years......and you have Golovkin getting a flat rate.
little GGG fanboys arguing who is the A side here is just plain ******, GGG's own network HBO is telling you who is the A side since they refuse to give GGG another HBO PPV unless he fights Canelo. Where as Canelo continues to get HBO PPVs and dates for PPVs before he even announces his opponents. If HBO realizes who is the A side then GGG needs to play his part as the B side and agree to the terms if he really wants the fight. He will get a career payday but Canelo no matter when this fight takes place with take the lion share. GGG is the real road block here because he keeps thinking he's a bigger deal then he is and trying to dictate weight, money and other things that he is in no position and has no leverage in.

Refused to come down or even negotiate on weight saying the fight would only happen at 160 when canelo has never fought higher then 155. That's called a non starter in negotiations. So canelo camp said OK then you don't get the fight now because this is the weight I'm fighting at now and I am the A side. The fight will only be on canelo s terms. So now you have to wait until canelo is ready to fight at 160. Just like ggg has told guys at 168. And when the fight does happen we tell you how much money we are offering you take it or leave it. Just like ggg does to lesser named fighters. If GGG gave up weight and played his B side role he could of gotten the fight earlier.
Are you nuts? Seems like most people on here are. Everyone seems to be forgetting Canelo calling ggg into the ring and saying he'd fight him right then and their and canelo has also been quoted as saying he would fight at the full limit of 160. So all this talk about how ggg didnt negotiate for a lower weight and that killed the fight is nonsense because as far as anyone knows they were negotiating for the fight at 160. Odlh or anyone else for that matter never said the negotiations were canceled because of differencein weight. He simply said they hada verbal agreement to face next september

                    • fight is never gonna happen, matter of fact no good fights for canelo anymore, fishnet realizes there is too much at risk, so he'll never again put canelo in a situation where he might be challenged, and of course counting in us to keep buying the ppv's
