Vargas is a fine choice whatever time to appreciate what's left of this fine warrior. If we can tolerate Floyd fighting the likes of Guerrero, Maidana twice and lord forbid Berto, Vargas as a young champion is a good choice.

Vargas is much worst then all those guys, specially Maidana.
Vargas checks off two items in the criteria box, its an easy fight and its for a belt.

Vargas isn't better than any of those guys tbh. Maybe Berto buy that's a big Maybe. Vargas vs. Berto would actually be a good fight.
Manny has not fought at 140 in years. His optimum fighting weight is around 145.
If he tries to go down to that weight at this age he will get KOed.
I don't believe that in any way he should go by Crawford demands anyway, Manny is in the A side of this and if anything this should had been a catchweight fight.
HALL OF FAME trainer Freddie Roach believes that his fighter, Manny Pacquiao, is not currently campaigning at his optimum fighting weight. The Los Angeles-based coach is of the opinion that Pacquiao – who battles Timothy Bradley for the third time in Las Vegas this Saturday (April 9) – would be best served competing at super-lightweight, rather than welterweight, the division in which he currently resides. However, any such talk would prove obsolete if Pacquiao goes through with his well-publicised intention of retiring from boxing after the Bradley clash.
“If Manny does end up fighting again [after this weekend’s bout], I hope it’s at 140lbs and not 147,” Roach opined. “Manny’s a much better puncher at 140 than 147. That’s what I attribute to why he hasn’t knocked anyone out in a long time [since Miguel Cotto in November 2009] – because he’s been fighting at the higher weight. It’s not that he’s not hitting as hard as he used to, it’s just that he’s not that big a person at 147. Manny could still make 135 if he wanted to. He walks around at about 138, so 135 would be no problem. I think a move down in weight could prolong his career, if he does decide to fight again. There are some big fights at 140, against Terence Crawford and those sort of guys. I think Manny’s best fighting weight is 140.”
Bronx-in all fairness check the date on the post. I think it's 2015 when this came out not 2016.
The whole thing is very funny. There have been a number of posters that thought Manny should go back to 140 up until Crawford (allegedly) made the demand that the fight with Manny be at 140.
Manny has earned the right to fight who he wishes IMO. If he wants to fight Vargas to get a win and keep the possibility of a Floyd rematch alive ok, I get that.
I just don't find it believable that Crawford demanded 140 and that Manny said no and Crawford said no fight when there is ample evidence that Roach and ARum both openly discussed a move down to 140.
I also don't understand why those saying Manny would have trouble making 140 (which is a reasonable point) didn't say this before when the move was initially being discussed.
Granted, more time has passed and Manny is a little older. It does seem that they were in support of this move then.
It feels like the time when Arum said Yuri Foreman at 5'11 was too tall for Manny but he had him fight Margs who was also 5'11. The height argument was just BS cover for the fact that Margs was a slow come forward plodder while Foreman was a boxer.

The date of the article was April 8, 2016. Like I said "you can't make this stuff up!" Anyway, I saw an article that said Crawford turned down a chance to fight Manny in April 2016, before Manny chose Bradley. I really don't know what's up with Team Crawford, but I can't believe he would turn down a Pacquiao fight @ 147, now that he already beat Postol. Stranger things have happened:
January 13, 2016:
“I think it’s a good fight for him [Pacquiao]. Hopefully, we’ll get someone [Mayweather] to come out of retirement after that,” Roach told Fighthype. Crawford said no. Bob [Arum] said they won’t try Crawford yet. Crawford is too young for Manny. Crawford may be a future superstar, but he’s not that far yet. They’re still building him. Crawford may be someone down the line, but I don’t feel he’s ready for Manny yet,” Roach said. So either Crawford turned down the Pacquiao or Arum if Roach is to be believed. It’s one of those two things.
Initially we heard that Pacquiao was the one that made the decision to select Bradley rather than Crawford or Amir Khan. Last week it was reported that Pacquiao was saying that it was Arum who made the selection of Bradley, and that Pacquiao said he didn’t care who he fought. Roach is saying that’s it both Crawford and Arum who turned down the Pacquiao fight. It’s pretty incredible stuff.
