Ratings for Wade were slightly better than Monroe, but just barely. This guy has picked up endorsements from apple and jordan this year and samsung over seas. To say his popularity isn't growing is a stretch when you consider he is known in other countries as well. Numbers don't tell the whole story, for example his tv ratings for the Murray fight were low in America around 850k, but did 2 million viewers in Germany and 6 million in Mexico.

1.338 million with a peak at 1.474 million against Monroe.
1.325 million with a peak at 1.388 million against Wade

They closed off sections in the Forum and this fight had attendance of 16,353 while his last fight had attendance of 20,548. And the live gate is significantly lower then his last fight as well.

How is he closing the gap on Canelo?

Heavy weights usually draw better. And take into consideration that in those countries boxing is a bigger sport than it is here in America. I mean, we are arguing over who does a 1 million views! That's laughable compared to what other countries get in viewership for boxing. It's not a big sport here.

Canelo did almost DOUBLE the ratings GGG did for HBO 2.1m viewers to watch him fight Kirkland on HBO and almost 10X as many PPVs when both fought last year on HBO PPV. GGG struggles to sell out basketball arenas while Canelo sells out Baseball Stadiums. GGG's highest attendance is like 20k while Canelo has twice had about 40K in attendance. GGG's highest live gate (tickets revenue was 2m) Canelo did 12.8mil against Cotto hell Canelo did 3.5m against Kirkland and that was a stay busy fight! He isn't even close to Canelo not ticket sales, PPV, attendance.

GGG is slightly better performer then Kovalev and Ward it's marginal. But is nowhere near Canelo.

He didn't do 10x on ppv, Glaser claims 600k, and that's with Cotto as the A side.

I didn't look at peak. My statement was Canelo is more popular but GGG is closing the gap. I don't think anyone would disagree, big picture, that in 3-4 years this guy went from an unknown to a stud, beyond just the past year.
