did Devin Haney sign with Top Rank?

yeah but when you are an athlete who likely has a 10-15 year run at best to maximize most of your life $$$$ do you bet on a proven commodity or a new fad that is said to be shedding 100s of millions of dollars?Idk how I made your point. I'm saying you can't even fairly compare a burger joint that just opened to McDonalds at creating popular new menu items. Maybe this new burger joint will become the new McDonalds if given enough time, maybe they won't, who f#cking knows.
Top Rank has been around for 50 years. Golden Boy Promotions has been around for about ~15 years. PBC has been around 1 year & they aren't just trying to build guys up they are trying to create a UFC type entity in boxing too. Its not a fair comparison to make to suggest PBC can't do things TR & GBP have 50x & 15x the experience doing right now. Give PBC some reasonable frame of time & the ability to make adjustments like TR & GBP have been able to do.Comment

Most people don't even know who the f#ck Devin is yet, let alone what his dad does in particular if its a criminal activity. I guess if you are in Vegas or Oakland you might know this stuff, but for sure most people haven't a clue.Comment

I feel like you just moved the goalposts on me.
Guys have jumped onto new promotions in the past. Guys jump on failing or troubled promotions in the past (I was just talking about Darmani Rock signing with Roc Nation which seems an awful decision at this point to me). I don't see how that has anything to do with anything. You are taking a risk whatever happens. You might end up the Mike Jones or Mike Lee of TR or you might become the Keith Thurman of PBC. Theres are gonna be winners & losers in every promotion right now today you won't have to wait 15 years.Comment

for sure but guys like mike lee could never fight. jones wasn't that good. soto karass almost exposed him then he made bad managerial decisions after getting flatlined by bailey. guys like fajardo never panned out either.I feel like you just moved the goalposts on me.

i am sure if mikey garcia could go back and do it over he wouldn't have sat out 27 months either and would have millions more dollars in his pocket.
roc nation we don't know how long they will be around but guys like cotto and ward were able to get inflated above market type of money that pbc tr and gbp just don't pay.
as for thurman. look at him. by the time he steps in the ring he will have been out of the ring 11 months and has lost the momentum he had before the bundu and collazo fights.Comment

**** happens doe. Trinidad had a period where he had beef with King & didn't fight for awhile. And as a fan of Trinidad he had a longer then ideal period of whatever fights before he really blew up. That can happen too.for sure but guys like mike lee could never fight. jones wasn't that good. soto karass almost exposed him then he made bad managerial decisions after getting flatlined by bailey. guys like fajardo never panned out either.

Ultimately I believe the number 1 ingredient to building up fighters is the fights not anything Arum is doing outside of hiring Bruce Trampler years ago. And there are a bunch of big fights to be made under the PBC banner that will build fighters up or at least should if given the time to do so. I certainly don't agree with every move PBC has made & I think the big fight, bs fight pattern most of the more known names are taking isn't a model that will fast track many guys to super stardom, but the ingredients are there if they choose to cook with them is the only question.Comment

even when they do good fights like jacobs quillin the ratings were terrible. that is the problem. imo they lack direction. need to keep fighters on 1-2 networks to help build their following.**** happens doe. look at a guy like pedraza. he would pay millions to switch places with verdejo and leave haymon and dibella. he has accomplished way more than verdejo but hasn't been given any push or promotion from his mgr or promoter. he can walk down the streets in San Juan and no one knows who he is. i guess that is why he said he wants to be free from them but why would haymon and dibella want to give him his release and a better opportunity some where else?Comment

I think the smartest move for him (and pretty much every other talked about prospect) would be to sign with Al Haymon as their adviser but no promotional company. Look at Danny Garcia, Porter, Spence, Mares, Leo Santa Cruz, Wilder and like 90% of the guys on PBC. They are all advised by Haymon (who nets them huge paydays) but aren't contractually tied to any promoter.
Out of all the promoters out there, Al Haymon, despite not being a promoter, is the only one who lets their guys fight "out of house" if it gives his client a big check. Wade for instance, is fighting Golovkin on HBO. Khan is another example, fighting Canelo on HBO PPV for a huge check. Haymon simply wants one thing for his fighters, and that is to get paid well.
Now imagine Arum or Oscar letting their guys fight on the PBC platform?
