I agree that he has no reason to keep the belt he took from Cotto and that he should return to 154, but at this stage I believe he's keeping it out of spite given the constant nonsense being spewed by the likes of Abel Sanchez.

Originally posted by TheBoxingXpert View PostCome on, seriously. He is holding a 160lbs belt. But he refuses to fight at 160lbs, insisting on 155 lbs. He weightdrains his opponents and he then rehydrates to outweight them by 20lbs, which he is able to do due to his youth and his body type. What is this? And what's worse, he is considered the P4P#1 many places. For what? Getting schooled by Mayweather, arguably losing to Trout and Lara and just barely beating a past-it Cotto by decision? I think it's about time that the Canelo fanbase wakes up and stop supporting him until he pulls himself together and actually proves that he belongs among the best names in the sport. How could he do that? By doing these few things:
1 - Fight at 160lbs. Doing anything else is disrespectful to the sport.
2 - Fight Golovkin, Jacobs or Lara (again). He needs a good and clear signature win.
If he does that, then he does what he is supposed to do. If he doesn't, then I think that anyone putting him into their P4P top 5 lists and hyping him should be ashamed of themselves.
The worst thing is, he's a good fighter, he's just too spoiled.
While I agree that the 155lb weight is ridiculous, please tell me what fighter he has drained?
Angulo was a 154 fighter, Lara was 154, Cotto fought above 154 his last 2 fights, Khan is was at 147. So again who has he drained?

Blame the WBC, who we all know will not strip Canelo no matter what happens. Floyd defended the 154 title against Maidana at 147, a full weight class below. They won't force anything on Canelo.
Blame GGG and K2 as well. If they wanted the belt so bad they should not have let Cotto fight Canelo or Canelo fight Khan instead of them. They willingly took the step aside money because this is their last realistic chance for a career payday for GGG. He is not a PPV draw and probably will never be on his own.
Don't hate the player, hate the game. Canelo put in his work to get where he is at. His own promoter did not want him to fight Trout or Lara but with great risk comes great reward. Pretty funny to see people so salty here.

Canelo just made 155 with complete ease and looked as healthy and as full as he's ever looked at a weight in. I don't think he'll have a problem making weight anytime soon, I believe you'll merely see him staying in better shape and gaining less weight between fights.
The second he can't get below 160lbs anymore will be the end of his career. At 160lbs, he would get destroyed by Golovkin and likely Daniel Jacobs too. He can't even move up in weight to avoid them, as guys like DeGale and Badou Jack would absolutely school him, despite his weight advantage against them. The only way for Canelo right now is down and he can't keep going down.
