Hard to hold that against Golovkin when Cotto and Canelo aren't all that willing to fight him.
Remember that Floyd had to do things like go to 135 and fight Castillo his 1st time there who as #1 in the division. Manny's 1st FW fight was Barrera. That's in part why they got these PPV fights later on.

Had GGG gone to 168 and beat Ward, he would've reaped the benefits down the road.

Ward did nothing to make the fight happen. He just kept blowing up smoke. Haa..hmm, let's do it... after 3 tuneups, anytime, anywhere...hm... injury doe. Stop this nonsense.

Castillo wasn't even a ppv fight, why is that being brought up?

Let's not compare the moving up in the lower weight classes with moving up in the higher weight classes. It's far more natural to see lower weight fighters move up than it is for higher weight fighters. You can show Mayweather or Pacquiao moving up, I can point to Bernard Hopkins staying for years at 160.

And Castillo was good, but he's not even comparable to Andre Ward.

There are, and have been, good fights in the division Golovkin is in.

They're not beind made in part because of politics (Haymon/Arum, HBO/SHO) and certain fighters avoiding him.

He tried to fight Froch, who's about Castillo caliber, as a SMW one off, conceding home turf to the Brit

STop the excuses. Castillo was the clear cut #1 boxer at 135. Barrera was #1 at 126. Ward, not Froch was #1 at 168.

Bottom line is that they had to move up to get big fights. Some kept climbing (Mayweather, Pac)

this is what the sport has desperately needed for decades.

once HBO is out of the equation and haymon controls everything, the sport will finally be able to deliver whatever fights the fans want whenever the fans want them.

the NFL & AFL merged for a reason. the NBA & ABA merged for a reason. the public wants one league, not two.

the best thing for boxing is one winner in this war, not a "thawing" that brings us right back where we were.
Boxing is a worldwide sport. Even if HBO pulls the plug completely Haymon is not taking over. The few US fans who are still interested will watch fights on a different TV channel.

                Big deal.

SO what it wasn't a PPV? Ward/GGG likely wouldn't be a PPV. Floyd went up and fought the #1 in the division without a tuneup. You get respect and reap the benefits from doing that.

Yes, the Canelo fight is a good fight. The point is had GGG done what Floyd, Manny and others had, he'd reap the rewards from those choices.

                    Smaller weight classes.

Hopkins remained for years at 160.

Froch was #1 active SMW, p4p rated when they tried to make the fight. He's also a future HOF, and Wards best scalp, withou the concessions Ggg would make, on weight and overseas location
