The HBO Budget Crisis and What it Means

Smaller weight classes so...?
Hopkins had to sign his career away to Don King to get the MW tourney. The Hopkins who blasted promoters, testified against them and hated King. I doubt GGG would ever make that kind of sacrifice.Comment

No. My point is that fighters have to make sacrifices in order to make big fights happen when they aren't "A-side." In Hopkins' case he had to give up the one thing he fought so dearly for. In GGG's case he's made none. Keeps beating mediocre opposition, demands catchweights when it suits him but is moaning about what Canelo is doing.Comment

Golovkin is 34 and about 10 years into his pro career.
You're a fair guy, I'm sure you'd want to be consistent and give Golovkin a couple more years to see what he does to get a big fight.Comment

I'm not knocking him for holding out for the money and an advantageous situation. I'm just not pretending he's being wronged. He's not.Hopkins was about 36 years old and 12 years into his career when he fought in the MW tourney.

I agree that he's not being "wronged", but he is being avoided.
I hate the prevalence of catchweights, especially with someone like Canelo, who relies on them...but Hopkins made the weight concession to fight DLH, and if Golovkin wants to fight Canelo he may have to do the same.Comment
